For 0.1.0 are you going to have the zombies explode into gibs when shot?  Tongue

I understand that's a window in the background, but I always first see a purple top hat.

Looks good so far.

Thanks Burnt!

I do plan to have some nice zombie exploding gore, but I doubt it would get into 0.1.0!

Haha

I can't wait to see what I can do. This is extremely exciting for me!  Grin

I feel like I can get 1.0 out today and then a rough blog so I don't have to annoy you guys on here.

0.1.0 Features:
- Basic Shooting
- Basic Zombie spawning
- Basic Zombie killing
- Basic Everything
- Very well made engine to help make new features in half the time!

Does anyone want a download? I don't feel like this release would be a good one to download considering difficulty does not increase yet, there isn't ammo, or any score. All that will be added in 2.0!

Keep coding guys!

Zombie Nauts 0.1.0

The great version has been released. It now shall reek havoc among the deepest darkest depths of the internet.

Features:
- Basic shooting + Sexy recoil
- Basic zombies + amazing framework for making new ones
- Basic gun stuff + a decent framework
- Basic restarting and arcade mode in general

Screenshot:

To make these tiny images I have to let the zombies get really close to be able to show them on frame. Is there a better way to make an image around this size that doesn't look stretched but still has a size of around 1280 x 640 pixels? Haha

Actual screensize:

Sexy varying zombie speed, huh? I thought of that all by myself! Just kidding, kpars is the man!

Download: Ehhhhhh, still too alpha for a download for my tastes.

Blog:
Should I really make one? It would take time out of Zombie Nauts development for a day or two, though would it be worth it? Am I getting annoying yet? Haha Grin

Calm down bro, I'm planning on campaign mode, arcade mode (what I'm making now), survival mode, sandbox mode, and multiplayer mode.

I will plan on getting 0.2.0 out today along with a simple blog. I need a blog for sure. So, I don't have to keep posting these silly posts. Tongue

One of the Vlambeer guys once said that if you're making a 2D shooter, you should make the bullets as big as your chest.

He said a a lot of good things about making action games.

Why do they need to be so big? I don't understand that logic.

Because it gives the bullets more life, makes them look like they do more damage.

Ahhhhhh makes sense. I'll whip one of those fancy shader things behind them and then blast them towards zombies like I'm the boss!

If you're looking for a good blogging platform with Github pages, there's Octopress, which is quite nice.

My website is powered by WordPress. Its alright, I don't absolutely love it but I would recommend it. Tumblr just makes it much easier to make your content get noticed because its a social network and a blog in one. In this case I would actually recommend Tumblr more because you can gain more players by tagging your posts and hoping people see them. With a website you'll have to spread the word. Tumblr can do that for you!

What's Been Up:
I'm having so much fun making this and posting about this game. It's been a blast! Though I really need a blog, but I'm too lazy to make one.  Undecided  Tongue Sorry about not posting on 0.2.0 I totally forgot considering the fact that I finished it late at night and went right to sleep. Any suggestions on the game so far? I plan on adding new maps soon, but I also need new guns, new zombies, and new ideas in general. Is there any way I could improve gameplay and make the graphics look more unique? All suggestions are welcome. Grin

Also, the screen shaking when you shoot the gun looks very good.

You're welcome to beat me, I just had 1760 points and am #6 on GameJolt's scoreboard (my attempt to beat #1 failed horribly).

I had to play it after hearing this game was in 'beta-stage', so I tried it, and I must say... I found some bugs! (surprise)
You shouldn't make it shoot if you click at the 'menu-bar' with the pause button stuff, You get free extra bullets Wink
The others were some shooting bugs and the ammo doesn't work on other guns (never got more than 50).

Also, something you said in the kickstarter thread, you had plans to make it a great game and develop it further, etc.
I really have admiration for that, I mean when I started to program games I made a tons of projects (and abandoned them after a few weeks).

Haha f**k yes, screen shake. Honestly every time I see it I get goosebumps.

Might I recommend some randomness to the bullets? Vary their Y velocity by a small margin to give it a "spray" effect, simple feature that gives the feeling of "I am spraying these bitches".

This will also allow you to add controlled bursts to the machine gun as opposed to full on auto, people better be accurate!

Some little things that are easy to add:

Vary the zombie speed
Add knockback + zombie health
Get a zombie animation in there, even a cheap rough one to make it look more intuitive

I have a little bit of a negative feedback though, although it is still in early development...I honestly hate the fact it takes me more than 1 click to simply restart, no offense but me personally I do not care about submitting highscore, logging in or anything like that at this stage. The foundation for it is there, maybe remove it until the game is more polished. Just my 2 cents.

I want to verify that the Gamejolt post is not the actual game! Haha that is an old version I made a year ago. Please do not critique the old game becuase I don't even have the source for it. Haha. I will probably post the new version today. All the things gibbo suggested was already added. Tongue

Anyways the one on gamejolt is old, as in years old. It really isn't the same game. Haha
