Quote
all the terrain lower than 0 on the map turns into extremely tall terrain, like the short isn't signed.

In 1.6 the following goes wrong:

int i = (short)(value & 0xffff);

It seems the mask is applied *after* the cast.
The bug was found and reported by 'lordus'. (http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6442508)

You can fix it by removing the mask (it's not necessary anyway).

FYI, this bug has just been fixed, so maybe this also fixes Wurm on 1.6....

It forced me to download 1.5 (the licence actaully says jdk, but it installs a jre) even tho i had 1.6, does it not work with 1.6? After much downloading though, I was quite impressed, it has the feeling of a complete little world. You should warn what happens when you dont dl the additional packs tho, I had to ask other people why "starving rooster" looks like a human. Do you also get character animations in the additional packs? I think this would add alot to the game.  There are a bunch of other wierd anomalies aswell, but i really like what youve done.

That is an error in the jnlp file, asking for a historic JRE.
I really refuse to install a JDK5.

......Anyone play this recently? I know Markus doesn't work on it anymore, but it'd be cool to maybe update the info on it.

I've tried it a couple of times, but it seemed very hard to get sucked into. I don't know if this is entirely true yet, but I did not see much progress over quite a bit of time.

Rolf almost has 3.000 paying customers so it is definitely not dying even though it's declining a bit since the recent big increase.
