Try not to glitch out of the map like that. I updated the download to fix that. Then go to the fishing area (spot with sand) and hold b to fish.

How are you making the HUD?

Which part specifically?

Thanks, a controls menu would be nice prior to showing the games rendering ^_^

Although I keep getting stuck on bushes / in front of the shop where you get your rod.
Besides that I like it >='D

Excellent lighting system BTW

Thanks, do you get stuck when you sprint? Because i disabled that sprinting option, I only had it to make things easier when testing.

do you get stuck when you sprint?

Yeah it's only when I sprint ^_^

Questions:
When will a saving/loading system be implemented?
How is the map loaded? (And was the map hand-coded?)

Suggestions:
A Level interface would be nice, rather than just HP/XP.
Adding skilling animations for up/down directions.
Tone down the maximum lamp brightness a pinch ^_^

Thats why I updated to remove sprinting. Saving / loading may be the next item on my list. I have finals this week and next week so I am not too sure. Most likely I will start this week. What do you mean by level interface? Map is one texture (unfortunately tile maps were giving me loads of trouble, so I killed that idea and did it like this). Animations for up and down I am just confused on how to actually make them look, so I have stalled on that. Any suggestions for that are welcome. I think the lights look so bright because I tested it with my screens brightness down passed what normal people use their monitors brightness at. Thanks for the feedback

Anytime mate.

What do you mean by level interface?
Like a interface that shows your levels, like mining/fishing etc and possibly the exp / exp till level?

Animations for up and down I am just confused on how to actually make them look, so I have stalled on that. Any suggestions for that are welcome.
I was thinking just throw the skilling item in the right hand while the character's facing up, and in the left hand (facing you) while the character's facing down?

Anyways ^_^ real nice job mate.

Added that to trello https://trello.com/board/mc2d/518466dc2ca2121279006100. Also would the tool still be facing to the side while looking up? Is that what your suggesting?

How are you making the HUD?
Oh the weapon selection boxes were made in photoshop. Pretty simple to make.

The quest was easy to understand and follow. The text in the bottom left and right is probably not visible that well, but I think it's okay.
The day night cycle was awesome and really smooth! Smiley

I know the quest is very simple right now. It will be expanded soon. I have noticed the message area is sometimes hard to see especially at night, so I plan on adding some type of GUI feature for messages and interacting with them. Thanks for the feedback ! Cheesy

I just wanted to say, nice job on your project! I've been following it for a while now, and you really seem to be getting the hang of it! Keep up the good work, it feels great to get something to work how you want it to, doesn't it? Smiley

Thanks a bunch! It really does!

Any suggestions for what to add next to the game? I might spend time learning how to use scene2d and spend time making the game looking much cooler. WHat do you guys think?

I don't think you should make it look cooler, the textures already look amazing! I think you should focus on actual gameplay now. No offense, I thought it was very cool, but there wasn't much to do :/ I loved it though! One thing, I don't know if anyone else has said anything about it, when you catch a fish and go back and try to buy a sword, the person asks you if you have obtained any fish right? Well, there isn't an option to say yes or no. I have no idea if this is a bug or not, but I couldn't figure out a way to buy a sword!

It's very cool though, good luck!

Maybe gameplay is a better idea, I'll work on continuing the first quest. You have to go to the trade shop to sell your fish and then you will get money to go to the sword shop with.

Whats the problem with double clicking the jar? Lol and I have no idea on how to go about doing updates

Whats the problem with double clicking the jar?

Well for me, I always have to write a .bat file containing the code to launch the .jar lol
1
java -jar JAR_NAME.jar

If this were to happen (not being able to launch by double clicking) to a "Player" (Non Java Programmer) I'm guessing it would DE-motivate him to play lol.

But than again maybe it's just my computer Tongue

Lol and I have no idea on how to go about doing updates

A quick suggestion would be that you'd host the LodeScape.jar online and attach a "Version number" to it:
http://www.yourwebsite.com/releases/LodeScapeV0-0-0-1.jar

Run a quick check prior to executing any game code to parse the version from the URL, if it doesn't match the current version programmed into the client:

1
2
3
4
5
public static final String GAME_VERSION = "V0-0-0-1.jar";
public static final String WEBSITE_URL = "www.yourwebsite.com/releases/";
public static final String GAME_NAME = "LodeScape";

if (!URL.toString().replace(WEBSITE_URL + GAME_NAME, "").equals(GAME_VERSION)) { /* Download it */ }

Just a suggestion.

Personally a free server is all you need.
http://www.biz.nf/ is what I use.

Comes with a free http://www.yourwebsitename.co.nf and a control panel etc (PHP/MYSQL/AJAX)

What's the downside?

There is no downside I guess, I haven't found a problem with .co.nf hosting :>

Have some appreciation for that. Smiley

EDIT: Max 2MB file upload size. Will cause problems for any downloads packaging all the LWJGL natives. But you can work around this by using separate downloads and a bit more code in the launcher.

Why not just use a GitHub Page?  You will likely get a GitHub account at some point or another so getting a GitHub page is simple and easy, and you can add to it simply by committing to it and pushing, just like normal Git.  I've used it for awhile and it works well.  I kind of gave up on keeping all of my downloads up-to-date and all though.  Mainly because the one download I needed to I rewrote most of and didn't feel confident to update the download.  But anyway, this is a good example of using my GamePatcher library to make a launcher and using a GitHub page for the download server.  For example, at this page on my GitHub page you can click on either of the links and it will initiate a download.  The actual game ZIP is hidden in the website, at http://sammidysam.github.io/PixelZombies/PixelZombies.zip

I think GitHub pages sounds a lot easier than what you are looking at.  Though it is a fully fledged website and not just a server.  You can easily use it as a server though.  Check it out.
