@princec Affinity Designer - never heard of. What's your impression, can it be a replacement for Gimp ?

VIDYA
You might have said that unintentionally, but VIDYA in Telugu means EDUCATION.

Most of my dev is on a Dell laptop I bought second-hand, 15 months ago. Runs I3, Windows 10.
Java8 (including JavaFX) Eclipse Neon
libraries: my own audio library gustafson's Perlin Simplex Noise implementation jcraft's ogg decoder
external tools: Audacity microsoft paint on rare occasions when making an icon
For 2D games -- don't need to get too deep into 3D tools. The little 3D I do is a simple JavaFX, mostly as a testing site for 3D audio experiments.

Hardware: A10-7850K at 45W (no fan) 8GB RAM 2 64GB SSD and 4TB on NAS.
Software: Ubuntu 16.10 Eclipse with Java 8 and vi plugin Vim Git GIMP Inkly
The last one in bold because you should all try it out. It's Inkle's editor for Ink interactive stories.

My PC: i5 6600, GTX 960, 16GB RAM and about 12TB of storage. 24" 1080p monitor.
My laptop is a MacBook Pro 13" from 2015.
Software: Triple-boot Windows 8.1, El Capitan and Fedora 25. NetBeans on Windows. Fedora is just for learning Linux. OS X is for music production. Most of the tools I use for actually developing my game are built into my engine, but at the moment I use Paint for art since I'm only at a very bare-bones texture stage.
