Drew my left hand:

Turned out pretty solid - now on to the right one for a challenge - it will probably hold a pen, though...  Wink

Looks good! I'd suggest focusing on contrast in shading, and smoothing it out a little bit. Don't draw in the lines so thick, remember that a shape is defined by light, not dark. A sudden change in darkness of the graphite denotes a sharp edge. You've definitely got the shape part down though!

For the bits that are a little more awkward to draw, look at the shapes they make. Don't think 'this is a finger', think 'ok this here is a triangle of these proportions, which is overlapped by this line here', etc. It'll help with those fingers in the background.

@cylab: I did that yesterday too (promise I didn't copy you):

Interesting to see different art styles, I normally draw photorealism from photos but I wanted to try something different.

More engine-related stuff, I'm working on polygon model support for my model editor and it's coming along decently.

Next is to add support for instantiating props in the game world. Try not to look at the awful frame rate, my laptop was on 2% and throttling horribly.

Actually I like the thick outlines as a "style"

and smoothing it out a little bit
I usually do with my "smear finger", but in this case I avoided it by purpose, unfortunately excessive eraser usage screwed this up a little Wink Nevertheless I need to practice hatching techniques

This is a good advice, appreciated!  Pointing
It would make a nice experiment to stylize a drawing to only use a subset of geometric shapes...

Ah, I was thinking you were going for a realistic drawing (damn, that sounds snobby, I mean as in trying to perfectly model the shading of real life. Still doesn't sound good... dammit. No ill meaning implied there, ok?). In that case, to refine your style that you like, maybe try making your lines a little less 'sketchy'. Do it first with a hard pencil (so it's soft and thin), then go over it once with a darker pencil. This will give you a clean look, with the thick lines you like.

And about the shading, I highly suggest not smudging your drawing. This pushes it into the paper, and makes it difficult to erase later if you want to change something. Instead, use light circling, or cross hatching, or just one directional shading with an ebony pencil or something similar. It looks cleaner, doesn't dirty your finger, and allows you to introduce finer detail.

YES! Exactly this! I love (really) thick, black outlines!

This here is a (Belgian, unfortunately) cover from a comic book series I get my inspiration from when I draw; I personally find it awesome and you should definitely check it out if you can understand basic French (although I'd say It's worth it even if you do not read French, heheh).

Why is it so hard to send out invoices sometimes? You'd think a person would be impatient to get the ball rolling for the income to show up. Got my bill sent to UCSF today for an ongoing part-time contract. I had finished a stage of the Shepard Chord improvements yesterday, but was trying to use discipline to not post until my "day job" work was invoiced.

So, now up: the Shepard Chord program can glissando "forever" either up or down. I also posted a version of the InputStream I wrote for saving these sounds as wavs for use in games.

Coming up next, an API for use of the jar as a library. Have to set up and test that sort of use first, though. Am open also to requests to modify things for specific game sf/x's.

To simplify the supply chain I gave the village clothesmakers magical balls of wool and bundles of fur that never run out. Vangardians can now buy apparel in the markets!

The next step is to make them NEED new clothes, so I will have to add code for clothes to get torn and damaged.

In other news I am coding at a desk today with a proper keyboard and 1080p monitor. Finally got my work from home setup sorted out Smiley

Feel like I've been saturating this thread lately, but I've made a bit more progress on my game engine (soon I'll post a WIP, once I've begun creating a game with it):
Vehicle support.
Yeah, you can jump into a fully physically simulated vehicle thanks to Box2D and cause carnage to your heart's content. Actually took a fair bit more work than I thought it would, but it's working decently. There's steering and turning but no braking just yet - the car does stop if you don't accelerate it, and it will stop if you leave it.
For this to work I had to actually implement something i was putting off for a while and that was 'interaction' with the game world, being able to 'use' objects. You can now 'use' lights to toggle them on and off and it's also the only way you can enter or exit a vehicle right now except through the console.
