RAM usage of Apache was spiraling out of control (cause unknown as of yet). Eventually filled swap space and processes started grinding to a halt. Looked like some MySql issues You base that on...?

I based that on when I typed in this url... It displayed a bunch of MySql dumps with errors. FloodLog, some other stoofs. About 7+ lines of errors, just letting em know.

Thanks GabrielBailey74. Using your IP I could find the SQL warnings in the logs. They simply meant that there was no connection to MySQL, every time I made a call to mysql_query. Sloppy programming on my part, I should have terminated the code when no connection was established. Fixed that.
I investigated further, and have not noticed any faul play in the logs. There were a bunch of IPs bruteforcing HTTP requests (>100/sec), resulting in flooding the RAM by Apache, causing MySQL not to be able to allocate RAM for a new inbound connection.

We are so lucky to have Riven, I doubt a full time IT department could accomplish half of what he does. Given how much care he takes with security it does make me wonder what percentage of forums out there aren't so lucky and have been (and remain) totally hacked (as was java-gaming before Riven was on the case).

Jesus Christ, indeed. "OMG THE SITE WAS DOWN FOR A FEW MINUTES!!!1" <within 2 hours> "X overloaded Y which caused Z. I've updated the code to better handle this." If all programmers were like Riven, Java would be faster than C. >_>

Quoted for truth. It's so tidy and nice you don't even notice that this forum is on the same Internet as Facebook, 4chan, e.t.c.

As some of you may remember, September 6th 1993, the Vault has been teleported in. Since then the vault has survived mostly freaks of nature. Its reign was ultimately ended by the third asian guy that touched it. After it was recovered from the wasteland barely six years later, it was voted to be on display in a local museum. I stole it. The rest is history. Every saturday I visit the garden, poke the vault with a stick. No results as of yet. For those of you with the mental capability of solving this riddle, this is engraved on the top: I mean, seriously, three dots? I'm really frustrated.
