This was a prototype that got over developed due to way to much wine. It's a simple mindless clicking game (a la Bejeweled). The original idea was much more complicated but it's slowly been cut down to the most generic type of time waster imaginable There are in game instructions but essentially you click the bubbles containing the fruit at the top. Click the wrong one and you lose a life. The faster you click the higher your score multiplier goes. I did a little right up on the development process because it's been pretty short (around 7 hours to over the last two days) and pretty interesting. Anyway, here it is, feedback on the game as always appreciated. Don't expect much Thanks in advance for any feedback on platform issues/bugs especially. Kev

Maybe it's a bit easy, but then does anyone really like hard versions of these types of games?

I got 2.800.000 points now, and to be honest, it became impossible way too quickly.
I'm sure quite a few times I was clicking this tiny buble, and within split second, s big one appeared and pushed the tiny one away, making me click the big one. After level 6 (or was it 5...) it really becomes too hard. (for me, that is)

K, noted. KappaOne actually said the same thing last night. Should have listened - I'll slow down progression. I guess ideally you'd reach really really hard by about level 10-12, with it only getting slightly faster each level after that. Heh, impressed you're playing it though - you smashed my score Kev

got 4.073.000 points (level 11, IIRC)
The problem now is that it's so fast, that the flickering of the 'target fruit' is not enough anymore to nice it. Itruely lost because of that, because while I adjusted to the gamespeed, i simply clicked the wrong fruits because I din't notice the changed target fruit. I had like 16 lives in level 10, and then it went down drasticly with 3-4 errors on a row each time the target fruit changed...
Maybe you could make a (few) bright flash(es) upon any change, after level 8 or so ?
Now I am used to it, I don't see a need to change the difficulty-curve. Actually, beyond level 8 it seemed to become easier to play, yet harder to gain points.

Time successfully wasted. Very nice!
While I've nothing in principle against a font that mixes upper and lower case, I did get a bit distracted by the 'g' in the 'very good' message. It looks more like 'very 900d'.
Also, I was a bit thrown by the absence of any type of time limit. If I play really, really slowly then I'll score points really, really slowly, but the game will go on forever, am I right? That seems to undermine its nature as a game. But then maybe it's more of a stress-relief toy than a game - I can imagine someone starting it running when they get into work, popping some bubbles every now and again during the day, and only ending the game when it's time to go home. But in that case, maybe the game doesn't need lives at all?!

Time limit seemed to make a pointless timewaster too confined. In contrast you do get bonuses for clicking correctly quickly (and for accuracy).
Riven - do you have sound turned on?

will do next time. Oh, and please GRAB the mouse! In my frantic clicking endeavours, I sometimes click a few pixels outside the window. That really sucks.

Well clicking outside of the window might be nice if it were an applet and there were ads by the side (thanks to Kappa for that idea.) New version uploaded: - More paced progression - More bonuses - Mouse grabbed, ugly cursor - New bubble graphic (donated by TheMatrix) - New visual feedback when fruit changes Kev

Thanks making those changes. About grabbing the mouse, it kinda backfired for me: - Mouse is grabbed but GameWindow is only in taskbar (behind other windows) so suddenly the mouse is trapped in this tiny rectangle, with my normal applications in front... (weird!) After I press ALT+TAB the game-window moves to the front, after wich the mouse stays grabbed (good.) - Because my tablet uses absolute positioning, the game isn't playable at all. Mouse.getDX/DY() are HUGE (delta is relative to center of tablet, so they are almost always big), so the cursor flies around the window. So... I press [space] to play it without a grabbed mouse again

Hm... 8.9M?? I was in level 15 (or so), with 20 lives, and it became a bit boring, so I quit 1.1M points... so I kinda doubt 8.9M...? The problem is that there are so many types, that there are only a few of each type on the screen. "all clear" all over the place, and the fruits are so far apart that you get very few points for each click (like 250...), where in the lower levels you get like 2500 when you're quick. Basically, the game grinds to a halt (point-gain-wise)

Yeah, totally agreed. The game play itself is generally a bit sucky tbh - was part of the point really I suppose.
Kev
PS. Think you're probably right about the 890k, must have re-read it wrong.

Heh, I don't think so I'd consider my ability as an artist to be pretty damn low. I have however produced quite a lot of these types of games now so I know first, where to source free resources from (like fasticon.com in this case) and I consider that I'm able to compose things consistantly a reasonable level now which generally means the ability to add stuff to free resources that looks somewhere near right. Kev
