Ok,

Potential exposure for those that want it.  We are putting together a demo cd for gdc and if there is anyone who wants  to get their demo included on the cd, please send me an e-mail with the following:

- Name of the game
- Description (2 paragraphs max.)
- Company/developer name and description, URL, etc. (2 paragraphs max.)
- Link to where I can download the demo
- The demo must run on Linux, Windows, and Mac

Submission is no guarantee that it will make it on the cd and demos that are included will be at our discretion.  I need all submissions by March, 4 2004.  We will send out release forms as we receive submissions.

Cheers!

-ChrisM

To clarify:

- These must be, at worst,  playable betas that are feature complete (i.e. remove buttons that don't work, etc.)
- ONLY SUBMIT GAMES THAT YOU WOULD POST HERE!  These will be going into developers hands (and publishers hands for that matter Wink)

What state of completion are you looking for?

i.e. must they be gold's, or are e.g. playable beta's OK?

malloc will be first against the wall when the revolution comes...

I suggest that an ISO image of the CD be made available for those that can't make it to GDC.

Mac OS X 10.3.2 JRE 1.4.2_03  With Java3D installed.

Works fine... with the exception of a layout glitch on the settings panel.  The plane selection list shows up only a few pixels thick.

Yes.  Though it might be a good idea to check for Java3D and pop up a message if it isn't installed (I don't know if you do this already).. Java3D is an optional download from Apple for Mac users and you can't distribute it yourself as far as I know.  If you poke around on the developer section of apple.com you might find a URL to point people to in a readme or something.

Hehe, nice to known that you accept submissions even after the conference is over  (22-26 march)...

A lot of people reading these forums are accustomed to more sane versions of date display Wink

Ooo, that would be a great idea. Smiley

Btw, you could include S-Type/V-Script if you want, but I don't know if thats the kind of thing you're after. If need be I can spend some time getting it in the right format etc. etc.

Excellent idea!  We will look into a size limitation for submissions to Java.Net and, if there is no problem, we'll post the ISO there after the show Smiley

How about 3D demos?
I got quite few here and I wouldn't mind working on an application that combines most of those effects all together plus new ones.
I also might include some music and FX sound using OpenAL...

Is the mac requirement really a must? Cosmic Trip refuses to load any resources on the mac, and I'm all out of ideas of how to fix it  Embarrassed

I once made the error of loading the resources with relative paths. Are your resources loaded with a '/' in front?

All textures and sounds, yes. They still make the JRE hang.

EDIT: also, we couldn't reproduce the problem in a simple test case. Resources just won't load in Cosmic Trip when run on mac (although they do load in web start). Weirdness Embarrassed

If you can't get the Mac version up and running, I just need to document that it won't work.  Should be ok.

Jeff, thanks for the offer but the problem is in the current LWJGL version for Mac, so there's not much we can do than wait for the Mac version to be fixed.

FYI, I use some awt to do the image loading (and currently also to load the music), and using awt causes a lock-up when the awt thread isn't started before the GL screen has been initialized. Doing anything with awt before initializing openGL makes it 'sort of' work (except that the keyboard won't respond) which is why it didn't lock up when started in jws.

Well,  there is a link to Flying Guns, I know THAT much Smiley

The CD contents are being finalized now and will be at the reproduction facility on the 11th.  After I have a final list of everything on the CD, I will post in my weekly update.

Cheers!
