Hi! The Raspberry Pi Foundation has created the cheapest computer of the world (about 25 US dollars): http://www.raspberrypi.org/It uses Ubuntu Linux I think it is a promising project but I don't think any JVM is installed by default. Do you think OpenJDK 6 armel would work on this? N.B: it supports OpenGL-ES 2.0

technically, it is very likely that openjdk should be doable on it. Dont know about performance though. That said, I plan on getting 1 or two when they release - if nothing else just for the fun of it

I'd be interested in these two, trouble is, according to the bbc article, they are at the prototype stage, they have not yet proved they can make them for £15 yet. Fingers crossed though Specs look like it would be fun to play with Endolf

OpenJDK performance will be abysmal due to the lack of any meaningful ARM performance backend (And what's the RAM specs exactly?) Cas

I am thinking of possibly having my own game console for less than 2 dollars in 2018 with all my games.
I will call it the AllBinary Platform.

That is pretty low cost will it run J2ME out of the gate?

That is pretty low cost will it run J2ME out of the gate? I doubt it, I don't think that's the direction they're going for. Hard to find info on what tech the device uses though. Or if it's real.

not that I care very much but a tweaked J2ME would run without problems. Some Java 1.4 syntax for you though.

Hello, any information about a release date? Yes, one of the main inventors of this nice little computers, David Braben himself, said in one of the announcement videos that the device should be out for the (mass?) market in about one year or so. I always loved the cool ARM processor, especially in the good old Acorn Archimedes days back then. Braben's Zarch (and then Conqueror) was just incredible. Maybe Braben does a kind of Zarch-II for the launch of Raspberry? :-) Java-Zarch? hihi. I always love him because of Elite. PS, just for nostalgia: Acorn ported Java to the ARM'ed Archie back then, I think already the A5000 run Java. Not today's OpenJDK, though...

Would it be possible to replace this SoC by a x86 compatible SoC? AMD Geode LX? Something smaller? Edit.: This seems to be an ancestor of this product: http://www.gumstix.org/

Nope, only 2 distributors, one is only registering interest, the other is sold out of preorders and their site is unresponsive.

There are some resellers which expect to have enough new raspberrys at and of march, not such a long time to wait.
also the 25$ model got upgraded ram, now the same as the 35$ one. The only difference now is that one have a additional ethernet and usb port
