I know notch used to be a huge user here, and on the community section of Minecraft.net there is a link to javagaming.org, but it says...

Quote
JavaGaming.org - Other java game developers. Neglected after Oracle took over.

o: What does he mean by that?

Basically, it's not true. Community is as strong as ever, and site is extremely well looked after by Riven.

Maybe he wrote that during the period where ChrisM couldn't be contacted and there was no real admin (i.e. Riven) in place to move things forward?

Well, we don't have to chop his head off, but maybe we can tell him nicely to change it? I mean, he probably doesn't even remember writing that anymore and being the person he am/became I guess his words might be having a little bit more impact than he intended when writing it?

I think it used to say something else, along the lines people from Sun were active on the forums, but that it was neglected(by them) once oracle took over.

I dunno, I might not remember correctly, or mix it up with what someone else said..

In short: it never said anything else.

The reason it says that is mainly because the server got hacked quite bad one time, and ChrisM never even mentioned it, nor did he fix the resulting changes in code. The website was left in that state until I received a copy of the database and started with a fresh SMF install. (and then it got hacked again... knowing what not to do, I kept everybody informed Cranky)

It's a good thing you need to be able to code to get in, or we would be getting some serious spamming. Really starting to appreciate those entry tests Wink

wait, so you are telling me that a man who has made millions programming is unwilling to just go and change a single line of html (doesn't even really count, because it is actual text). that just seems strange and wrong to me.

granted though, he might not have easy access to that if someone else maintains the site.

What is the point of your ill-informed outrage? As you said, the explaination is very simple, he doesn't know how to make the modifications on the webpage, somebody else manages that. It's called delegation and it's a good thing Kiss
