Everyone here (including myself) loved to bash Sun for their complete incompetence in everything related to user-experience, but the negativity with Oracle is starting to reach ridiculous levels. Gosling leaving, JRuby team leaving, JOGL being kicked out, Doug Lee leaving, Apple stopping... when is the last time we had good news?

As it stands the JCP is a useless organisation that is powerless, they might as well dissolve.

Maybe Oracles heavy handed tactics will help kick it back into motion and break the deadlock.

The recent Oracle and IBM team up has probably been the biggest progress they've made in a while. It gives IBM a much stronger position to influence the situation.

Danger is if some of the big players ASF, Google, Redhat, Eclipse, etc walk away then it could be in problems.

I honestly don't really see much difference from before. Sure is a not the same guy now. But JCP has always been a bit of a "corporate overlord" at best. Either someone high up wants your suggestions or  your pretty much out of luck. At least that what folks working with it were telling me.

As for having a corporate overload. C# has one, and its not so bad. Really i don't so any reason for alarm here. Its a new boss, and as far as i can tell, not all that different from the old boss.

Perhaps we will at least get an update sometime in the next decade.

I'd mostly agree with that, but I consider Doug Lea a smart cookie, and one of the few individuals (not corporations) on the JCP. If he's giving up then it seems like a telling indication of how things are changing under Oracle, and it's not for the better.
