It is looking very good for Markus. He is doing really well and has added a lot of more features than I expected. I hope that he will add that beautiful light effects before he finishes it...

I cannot get out of the first room? I tried pressing space on the gate and nothing. Am I missing something?

I'm nowhere near good enough to make something like that in 48 hours. I don't even know how to do that raycasting thingy.

On the other hand I wouldn't make that n00b mistake of making the first room only exitable by using an undocumented feature on a very difficult to spot graphic Smiley

Sounds to me like you're a better game designer but a worse engineer. I can relate.

On the other hand I haven't made $30m from any of my designs.

"Trying to balance game play against scale is interesting. I can do HUGE oceans with HUGE islands very easily and fast now, but it plays bad." - Notch ( Markus )

Having technical skill may be beneficial sometimes, until you start to really look at it and realize there isn't much depth or longevity in pure engineering. Excellent Design will eventually win out.

This might be a dumb question, but I watched part of the stream and he was able to update running code without having to star and stop the applet. He was working on some fonts. How the *@#^ did he do that?

I am finishing up my first 3D Multi-Player Multi-Platform game.  So if you have a great 3D game in mind then I can do the Open GLES for you using my AllBinary Platform.

Bah, I did a WAY better game in 14 hours. It's so much better it's impossible right now. Smiley

But more seriously this game is quite good. I wanted to play it through to the end although there weren't enough health potions so I quit once I died. Markus is lucky to have a wife who lets him actually spend 48 hours on these. I had to do quality time and all that throughout. Tongue I keep trying to keep things simple enough to give myself sufficient time for testing and level design, but I 100% of the time end up with a working engine like 1 hour before I have to stop. There is definitely something to be said to being able to make a game that feels cohesive and full in 48 hours (as this does).

These blocky graphics are like his trademark, and it works to his advantage doesn't it  Smiley
It's quite remarkable how he can turn a couple of tried and proven ideas into an enjoyable and unmistakably 'Persson signature' game within 48 hours! He must have had a quite clear idea of what he wanted to accomplish.
I think this proves yet again that his strong point is striking this delicate balance between what is doable just by yourself and making a fun and accessible game.

Does he ever visit this forum anymore, btw?

No, he lost his password, after it was reset, and he's too busy to click [forgot my password] Emo

Hence the 'adjusted' link to notch's profile on the social-rankings page Smiley
