Not exactly the game, Its the content creation ide.
But I'd still like everyone to take a try at it.

just unzip the file and run the ide.bat script. Be sure to set the JAVAHOME variable in the script to point to your java install.

Let me know how you make out.

for those who are curious, the file is 2.31 MB (server doesn't seem to tell users that)

The zip file seems to be corrupted for the Windows zip utility, I had to use 7zip.

Anyway here's what I got when I tried to run the program:

did you run it by just double clicking the ide.bat file.
make sure that the dir that holds the resources dir is the directory you run from.

I get the NullPointer also, and I've changed JAVAHOME in ide.bat.

OK I'll look into it  Huh Try downloading it from the same link again. If I extract that zip and double click the ide.bat script it runs fine for me.

Anyone else had a chance to give it a go. I know its not as fun to use and editor as an actual game but I could really use the feedback. Wink

That's good news Daniel, Perhaps since you wanted to participate as an "Observer" at first you could start working on a new map Wink

??

I get exactly the same null pointer exception as above. 1.4.2, downloaded, changed the IDE_HOME and ran ide.bat then exception time.

hokay, your problem seems to be either directorys with spaces in them or too-long directory names. I initially ran it from a folder imaginatively entitled 'new downloads' on my desktop, so the absolute path to that is going to be pretty long :

1
C:\Documents and Settings\bingo the clowno\Desktop\new downloads\distro

then i copied the 'distro' directory onto the root and it ran fine. So its probably just a minor bug in your resource loading code thats at fault :-)

D.

-edit- I downloaded it about 10 minutes ago -edit-

-further edit- but i can't actually seem to DO anything , a brief overview of the keys or something might be good :-) -edit-

Ah Yes... Well windows can be picky like that.  The Editor is fairly straight forward. for now you can create new maps via the file menu or edit the current ones. Just point and click. The Toolbar buttons have mouseover text. I will put a tutorial together eventually.

BTW the CVS version will always have more features and bug fixes. Wink

well thats the thing, I -can't- just point and click. When the editor starts up I'm confronted with a black editor pane, I cklick on one of the tilesets , click on a tile , and then what ? I can't seem to DO anything with it. Clicking on the editor pane doesn't do anything, no exceptions thrown or anything, nothing in any of the log files. I was wondering was there any key or anything i needed to press to paint the tiles onto the editor pane or anything.

D.

-edit- okay managed to lay down some tiles, Is there some difference between the background terrain tiles and the foreground 'item' tiles ? like trees and so on. Needs some way of telling precisely where a tile is meant to go, a small box in the shape of the tile would work. Very haphazard at the moment, you end up misaligning everything. -edit-

Ok I'll go ahead and use a tile marker to show were you are.
You should be able to load in existing maps from the resources directory.

Seems good to me, although I, too, had to move the dir before being able to start it. Don't have time to test it much atm though, I have to study Smiley
