Hi everyone, I wonder if there will be another Java4k Contest running for 2012.

Seems so quiet here now.

Regards, Damocles

I'm already thinking about which of my half-finished projects or new ideas to run with.

Yes, I hope there will be many cool entries this time again.

Last time I actually missed the deadline by some minutes Sad
So this time I will not "pack" until the last minute  Roll Eyes

I love java4k competition time. Gets me all enthused about the challenge of fitting into 4k. Each year the quality of the games gets better as well.

Do we know if Appel is going to host the competition again this year? he does to a wonderful job.

I am quite sure that Appel is going to host the 4k compo again. He mentioned that in passing a while ago. I know that he has been quite busy lately, but I will go and kick him to make an announcement and maybe open the site for submissions.

I guess that the lack of bickering over how to improve the compo must mean that it has gotten quite good  Cheesy Hope that was not a fire-starer...

Since I have never participated n a 4K - I have a lot of questions

is there like a collection of tips somewhere ? - I did find the applet templates

like for example sound - without any other code, just using PCM wave , sound effects are way too big D=

I'm in Smiley

@Cero: Look in the 2011 Java4k forum for some example templates.  There's some stuff on sound as well.  However it takes up quite a bit of space, particularly if you want more than a few notes.

Edit: PCM wav files are too large for java4k, as any external files need to be included in the 4k budget.

There is a getting started at the java4k site.
I have also created some hints in a wiki that also talks about sound a bit.

Now I can start publicly stating that I'm working on my first entry for this year.
