I just finished my new 4k game: Step Stones 4k http://stephan.syska.dk/javating/stepstones/Step%20Stones%204k.zip I squized and squized and now it is excactly 4.096kb bytes and I'm a happy man The game is pure fake 3D and all calculations are homemade. Enjoy! Screenshot: NOTE: I made an OpenGL mode which speeds my computer up to 100fps but I have 3 three friends who dont get any boost out of it. If you run the run_OpenGL.bat and dont get 100fps then it just runs in normal mode. I was told (by Kevglass) "that all the OpenGL version actually does is turn on the Java2D pipeline which won't have any effect in earlier VMs. " This means: If you have a videocard that supports OpenGL and your fps is less than 100 you can tweak the game speed quite a bit by getting JVM 1.5

Where: The J4K thread, the here and/or the one at forum.sun. the J4K thread? WHat is that? Is that a thread on java-gaming.org??? the one at sun?? WHere is that??? There really needs to be an official homepage for this contest, it seems very unprofessional with 3+ boards to post it on. Who are the judges for this contest? And is there a 1st prize?

That'd be 2 boards because there are two communities involved. And is there a 1st prize?
10 duke dollars I believe. That might be why it seems unprofessional to you, because its not really about winning huge prizes or the games being fantastic. Its just for fun. (I will give you a link for my game is soon as it is signed up for the contest)
Is this a worry that someone might steal your idea/code? Kev

Is this a worry that someone might steal your idea/code? Hehe yes, I get paranoid in these situations. Well I know you have already answered lots of questions of mine, thankyou, but I would really appreciate if you would post the two links for the two threads you are talking about.

Hey, nice game! Play beautifully here... reminds me alot of a SkyRoads game and a fair bit of Late4k this year.
- Could do with a bit more colour (but I suspect thats just a taste thing).
- Maybe you could add squares that you get a bonus for if you include them on your path.
- When you die it'd be nice if you actually fell down.
Cooooool tho.

Hehe thankyou Hey, nice game! Play beautifully here... Well, you sound like your videocard supports the OpenGL version What is your fps? reminds me alot of a SkyRoads game and a fair bit of Late4k this year. Yes, It reminds me of Skyroads too. That game rocks! Late4k? Hmm, I will just go check... Could do with a bit more colour Yes, I should do different colors, but seriously, Im 23bytes from max. I wouldnt be able to implement it. When you die it'd be nice if you actually fell down. The game is fake 3d, so making the player fall down would require reorganization of the entire game but still: Space wouldnt allow it. I just moved the post to the top of this thread and added a link on the j4k thread to this one. That would better organize any comments.

You might want to mention that all the OpenGL version actually does is turn on the Java2D pipeline which won't have any effect in earlier VMs.
I was using software (or rather Windows GDI contexts) mode and it worked fine.

ohh, oke. Well does that mean the JVM 1.5 is what it takes to make it support OpenGL?
(I have added your information to the top post)

Yeah, version 1.5 seems to be the first one supporting the pipeline.. I wonder it will (or has been) ported back yet.

It is quite like tube runner? of last year (or was it the year before), either way great game. Much fun.
And (in GL) a steady 100fps.

You stole my idea I knew I should have submitted it later Nah, I guess they are quite different, but having created the barebone Late 4K game using ~ 2.5K I was thinking of making it Late 3D 4K. That would have made them very similar I got distracted by other 4K ideas instead. I think this game more resembles an older 4K game: http://jcolorexpansion.sourceforge.net/tube_blazer.html One of the absolute best 4K games ever, and is a nice twist (or in this case bend) from the old trailblazer. Agree with comments from Kev about improvements, and it would also be nice if it would speed up a bit, since it never really gets difficult, but with 23b it might be tricky. Still, cool game!

I just - S Q U I Z E D - the game like an insane. I even had to remove the title of the game and rename the zip to a.zip. I added colors to the game (Brown and gray) though I dont know if I like the colors I still know it is better than before. The file size is a... hold on.... 4096kb, ladies and gentlemen It couldnt get closer. I posted a screenshot of the game at the top post of this thread. What do you think, guys? I knew I should have submitted it later Wink Nah, I guess they are quite different, but having created the barebone Late 4K game using ~ 2.5K I was thinking of making it Late 3D 4K. That would have made them very similar
Could have, would have, should have.... Thats easy to say, man I could also say that I wanted to make my pong game 3d and then it would be the same game as CounterStrike, "but I just got distracted" Our games dont look like each other and even if you did make it 3d I still think they would be very different from each other.

Holy shit thats a lot I just tried em all, they are pretty simple but the car game really rocks, noce graphics. Why do you make that many 4k games instead of creating a bigger game??

This was just a passing phase for a couple of weeks. Although I've got a couple more to do now. My main game is currently Gravity Battle, though I've worked on lots of bigger games in the past. I've a list somewhere.. um... ... http://www.cokeandcode.com/index.php?page=portKev
