Katt – Run on the Tide

is a story-driven, action-adventure game set amidst a world steeped in legend, gods and mortals. Currently in preliminary demo/conceptual stages, the game has hand drawn graphics, pets and a deep story.

An independent title (there are principally two of us) that we're poring all our creative energy into.

This is a pure Java game, currently for PC, but which we hope to port to android and ios.

You have some genuinely beautiful graphics you're working with here, but you need to work a lot on making the gameplay smoother. Keep up the good work and keep practicing. Make sure to play a lot of games that inspire you to get a real clear feel for how you'd want your game to feel, then keep iterating until it gets there. Best of luck!

really awesome graphics, well done! I notice something "wrong" on the camera system, because camera is linked to player position. You can improved on that using some methods, here some links:

and when player jump on most higher platforms, should not be able to see the black behind the scene!

Thanks so much for the comments! That's nice to hear from experienced developers.

The artwork is a labour of love. We're in discussion with a great 2nd artist currently, and hopefully she'll come onboard soon!

The lack of camera has been on my mind for a while. Hence, I've just added an x-axis camera, which pans against the direction of movement. The game was never created to have a y-axis track, so I'm staying with the position lock in Y, but I much prefer the effect. I'll post an update when I get a second. To get this effect, I interpolated against the player centre by the difference in velocity, and offset all model structures accordingly, prior to render.

Great graphics! I know this might be something special and maybe you have already included this in your future plans but what about if you disable the movement animation during jumping? From my opinion is looks a little bit weird because the character is trying to walk on air. Maybe it would be looking better to disable movement animations when being not on ground or add a jumping animation? Another thing is that I personally find the jumping sound a little bit annoying and monotone after some time.

However this is really just small stuff and and my personal opionion. Since it's wip you might have things like this in your pipeline anyway.

Edit: If I click on your website ( on the top right navigation (for instance on GameMedia) nothings happens. I assume that I'm supposed to get scrolled down towards that section? I'm using the newest version of google chrome.

All good feedback. I recently rebuilt the sound system from FX back to Javax, some of the volume balancing got lost en-route: the jump is much quieter normally.
I believe, our artist wants to add a jump animation. I'll upload a sample when I get a moment.

I'm aware of the website bug. It's a known bug in Bootstrap for slow scroll on Chrome. Last time I checked we were on the latest library version, but hopefully the fix will soon be into a release.
