During our christmas holidays my brother and I participated at the libGDX gamejam. The theme was "Life in space" and our contribution is a realtime strategy game called "Galaxy Conflict".

To win this game the player has to gain control over all planets of the galaxy by eliminating the 4 competiting factions. The planets, which differ in size and productivity, orbit around a central sun. At the beginning of the game each faction only controls its homeplanet. The other planets are inhabited by neutral and peace loving civilizations.

Using the left mouse button the player can select one or more of his planets. A drag and drop gesture between the selection and a target planet sends half of the ships residing on the planet(s). Additional tapping on the target planet sends additional ships.

If the target planet is owned by another faction the fighters attack the planet. The opposing forces cause equal losses on both sides. The planet is conquered when only attackers are alive. The right mouse button or the cursor keys are used for moving the camera. The mouse wheel or the keys A/D for zooming.

The jam lasted a whole month but still a lot of features and parts are missing. Nevertheless we hope that it is already fun to play and we decided to continue the development after the Jam.

hi, I've played a bit and find it a little bit slow, my feedback:

- nice music
- simple controls
- nice zoom
- moving planets!

- repetitive background: you should have added some sort of parallax effects and more nebulas, stars, etc..
- planets orbits visible could add a little bit to gameplay because player can see where his planets goes Cheesy

anyway a solid entry, work well on my pc!

Making the orbits visible is really a nice idea and also adding some nebualas to make the background more interesting and lively. We are already using two layers for some parallax effect but maybe this is still too weak.
We will certainly have to do some more balancing and tweaking to find a decent game speed.

I really like this game!

The switching between upgrading and building ships is annoying as hell since you can only toggle the build/upgrade-mode and view stats of one planet at a time.
It would be much more convenient to be able to drag a box around the planets and switch the mode for all of them, just like you already implemented for moving units.
You could also give an combined unit count for your selection in that case.
If selected planets have a different build/upgrade-mode just display an "undefined" icon.

You are right, switching is really annoying at the moment but we will follow your advice and add the possibility to change the mode for multiple selected planets at once.
We also want to display the current mode and the infrastructure level of the planets without the need to select them before.

You can try replacing the upgrade icon with a more recognizable icon, it took me a while to figure out what was happening with the two buttons...

but aside from that, overall its a great game  Smiley
