Hi folks,

A friend and I are developing a new 3D strategy game. It's called Drohtin. The Game is based on the jMonkeyEngine and is written in Java. That means the game runs on Windows, Linux and Mac. We already uploaded a homepage http://drohtin.org/blog/. The homepage is quiet new and we constantly upload new content.

Some infos about the game:
The title Drohtin comes from an old German word 'Druhtinaz' which means Leader or Warlord. In Drohtin you are the leader of a poor group of people in the medieval. Your mean task is it to build a powerful nation. In order to do that you must build new Villages with a booming economy. At first you can build some tent (e.g. tent for woodcutter or fisher). Not very stable or impressive. After you cut your first resources and build some more tents you are able to build more powerful buildings like a church.

Drohtin provides a Singleplayer and a Multiplayer mode. At the moment we are still developing. But we hope a nice tutorial will be done in the middle of 2014.

I hope you like the style and the idea of the game. Comments or ideas are always welcome (here or at http://drohtin.org/blog/).

have fun

Wow it looks good. I like the idea of the game. But...
12FPS?  Clueless

Why are all OpenGL tutorials written in Brainf**k?

Don't worry.
I took this screenshot at my laptop with an onboard graphic card. Usally I run it on my normal computer (still 3 or 4 years old) with an average graphic card. There I usally reach the limit of 60 FPS (we limit it to 60 becouse more FPS make no sense).

Love the idea!

A pretty unique approach to a somewhat overdone theme. But still my kind of game. I love resource gathering and building so your doomed to be a success with me.

So far the graphics are looking pretty good. Would love to see the interface, I can't really tell what is in the bottom right corner.

Keep up the good work!

I am glad you like the idea and the graphics.

About the GUI:
We try to keep the GUI as simple as possible. We don't want to create a hugh GUI overlying the game.

In the right bottom corner is a place reserved for the minimap. The minimap is not done yet. In the middle bottom is the unit information.
There you will see some general informations aout the clicked unit. In this case the Townhall is clicked and you see also the resource storage of the building (tabsystem).

On the middle right side is the build menu. We hope 2 level are enough for all available buildings. The first level is the categorie and the second level is the building.
At the moment each button look equal because it take some time to create these icons. On hover you will see the name of the building. After choosing the building, the building sticks to the mouse and you can place it at an available position on the map (building look green -> OK, building look red -> Not OK). As long as the building is at the mouse you can rotate the building by using the mouse wheel.

On the left upper side you will see a game information area. The images for this menu are also not done. At the moment it is more a default look.
Everytime something happen the information will displayed in these box. At this time the Townhall is ready (which is the first building you have to build). When you click on the text, the cam will move to the spot where the event happened.

The game information area and the build menu are just displayed if you need or want that.
If you are also interessted in the main menu just let me know.

We are also open for new ideas about the GUI ... so feel free  Cheesy

Hi,

some exciting updates about Drohtin.
We adapt some of the grafics and took some serious work in the performance section.

As you can see in the left corner, the performance is much much better. Also the 3D object look much better and are better integrated in the whole word.
The pic shows a small village beside a forest. In the background is a lake for water suply and fishing. Each building type has an individual look and differentiation is easily possible.

This pic shows the whole map (performance is still ok -> left corner  Grin). Beside the forest in the left corner is the village from pic one. So you can see the proportion of the game.
At the moment we have 4 map size (small, normal, large, very large). The map at this pic is large. The map "very large" is 4x bigger than that one! So you can image the size and the possibilities.

We are also defined all first level resources (after an update of your village are more resources available). The pic below shows the resource icon of a deer.

I hope you like the new impressions. So stay tuned and check out the homepage drohtin.org/blog/ for more information.

Looks really good. I believe you will change the in-game font?

thx.

What exactly do you mean? Are you talking about the font of the text in the box in the left lower corner?
This box is not visible during the game (now it is just for test and debug visible).

The real in-game font looks different. Actually we are still looking for a good one. We still have some options but we have to choose one of them.
But it will be an old looking on (but still good readable).

ahh, ok!
I was not sure to what picture you are refering  Grin
And yes this font will definitly change. The font at this pic is just a default one.

There is also a high possibility that the GUI background will also change. We are not so happy with the GUI at the moment and we definitly want to change something.

Great progress!

Will you actually be able to go gather the resources yourself (hunt deer, chop trees, etc)?

This reminds me a bit to Dungeon Keeper 2`s possess magic. But we are already thought about this. It is a bit difficult to implement it because after possess the human you can do what ever you want.
For example:
If you choose a human who is woodcutter. You have an axe and insteed of chop a tree you are attacking another human or a deer or something else. That means it must be possible to interact with each other object. This is a big deal because usually the woodcutter interacts just with a tree.

So I believe this is a feature which comes very late or never. But it will be possible to switch into a person without any control.
We keep your comment in mind but the game stay`s an RTS game with focus on great simulation of economic, village managment, trading and making war (as commander).  Cool

I cannot wait to play! It reminds me of Far Cry. I do not know why. But I like it.

We do not have a full roadmap for the release (alpha, beta, stable). But we are planing to submit Drohtin to Steam Greenlight (probably between September and October 2014).
As soon as we pass Steam Greenlight, we will release a alpha version on Steam. If we do not pass we will think about another way to publish.

Hi folks,

it's been a while..but we created some new buildings, extended the map generator and did a lot of art work. Here is a pic where you can see some of the results. In the front is the church on the top of a mountain. In the back is a nice valey with a lake.

We are also working on a trailer, which should be done in the the 2 weeks. It will be an ingame trailer and you are able to see some more of the gameplay.
