I think I'm a great artist just not on pixels. I did a bit of work a few days back but does anyone know some good sites or people for free, not rights, pixel art? I've been on the following sites:

http://opengameart.org/

http://tsgk.captainn.net/

This is what I have made so far (32x32):

If you're a great artist then just scale your art down and it will look like (blurry) pixel art. Even if you're quite bad it works out pretty well.

I'd say just keep making your own, and never-ever-ever use other's stuff, even royalty free. I know some of the art I do I'd never of been able to do if I allowed myself to use other's assets.

Pixel art is actually not too hard once you get used to it, it's just time consuming. The biggest thing to keep in mind is color balance and shading, you'd be shocked how far a little proper shading can take a very simple piece of pixel art. Most of my single-shade pixel art is only 3-6 colors total.

My only tip is this, and this goes for all pixel-artists out there.

For the love of Duke please do not spam the 'Add-Noise' filter on your sprites/textures. It doesn't look as good as you think.

If you want to add noise, actually "draw" the noise, using only 1 or 2 colors and a sort of pseudo-pattern so it flows nicely (Like I did in my sample image in the other [post)
