I don't like to do that but I think this could help drive traffic to my game site. I'm requesting that you add a link to funtoboggan.com from your site. Those who are interested will be linked back from my site.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not worried about traffic to my site at this moment and don't want to deal with the PITA that editing my website is. Also, in order for some of the bigger fish like Markus and Cas to want to do it they're going to want some incentive, and honestly your site doesn't have any due to its low visitor count.

I will gladly cross promote. First on our admittedly pretty quiet blog, http://nobrakesmedia.wordpress.com/
Later on released game pages, We should be submitting our first iPhone game by the end of the month, which
will hopefully start driving up some traffic slowly.
I would like a pretty image for it though, about 150x65
and will get our logo made next week for you.

I have pointed to your site in my latest news: http://www.pokemonworldonline.net/index.php of things to do while our server is down.
But please don't point back(well not yet). We have enough traffic atm Smiley

No cost. Popular people seem like they don't want to link out a lot of the time though. I guess because once you do it for one person you've got to do it for everybody. Smiley I meant that your site doesn't have many visitors, so it's unlikely to drive much traffic to whoever links to you. I don't mean to be offensive, I'm totally in the same boat! I was merely pointing out why people might not be super interested in this.

But it looks like some are, so that's great!

Thank you so much zammbi!

I can't believe it! For today I have 773 visitors and counting. I don't expect that much returning visitors but at least that should help. I what's interesting is that I can see that many seemed interested by my games. Just PM me when you want me to link back to your site.

Eli, I understand. Thanks for your feedback.

It is simply a link exchange. If you agree to put a link to my site on yours than I'll link back, which I can do first. BUT I can't do that now becaue I've reached my bandwidth quota (1GB) for the month. This will be reset on the 17th of this month. Right now my site is still up and running but I have a warning in my admin pages saying that I'm in danger of a site freeze. So I should be good to put your site logo in my links page starting tomorrow.

1GB sounds a bit low... the cost of 1GB varies from as high as $0.10 to as low as $0.00x for clients: for the ISP it costs next to nothing: 1GB / month cannot generate significant bandwidth. Are you hosting your site on some free account? If you're paying for it, you should immediately move to a better host.

Well, too much traffic is always appreciated!  Smiley The issue is that I still have few visitors clicking on the ads. And the PPC (pay per click) of AdSense is so low! I guess to have minimum descent revenues with that your site needs at least 10000 visitors a day. I'm very far from that.

Yes I pay for it. If I change provider then I'll have to entirely recode my site, which I don't want to and don't have time too. And with webs you have high level tools that allows creating a relatively nice site in no time. Unless you know better competition.

Maybe only host your (media) files elsewhere?

1GB is just harsh.

Yeah harsh but you know I pay 50$/year US. Not too bad.

But yeah, I could host my media files elsewhere.

That's a LOT for such a limited webhost package.
$50 = 43 EURO

The following webhost is dutch, but let's forget that for a moment:
https://www.webxtra.eu/info/advanced-webhosting.26.html

Look at the "Xotic" package: 12*3,50 = 42 EUR
Diskspace: 500MB
Traffic: 30GB/month
MySQL: 5x
Mailbox: 100x

So for your $50 you should get at least 30GB/month, webhosters in the USA are usually cheaper than those in the netherlands.

You could use mac.com. They're cheap, have very good tools (if you want to have a website that looks like it's an Apple product), and you can do most things you can do elsewhere.

I personally use namecheap.com which has excellent customer service, has never once had downtime issues in my 3 years of using it, and has incredibly reasonable prices.

My only issue with it is that it's very picky about headers that go into sendmail - I used to have just a form where you type in an email address and comments and it would email "from" the email that was type in, but then they upped restrictions so that I can't do that anymore (it's always from namecheap now). There's ways around that if you want to spend the time fixing it.

Anyway. I pay $5.83 per month for 1000GB of bandwidth. That factors to $0.0058 per GB. Obviously, you're getting ripped off. Smiley
http://www.namecheap.com/learn/webhosting/web-hosting.asp
Then I just make the website with HTML etc. and upload the code with an FTP client.

Well, that's called overselling Smiley No ISP can truely deliver datatraffic at $0.0058 per GB at small customers.

True. I don't think I've ever used more than 2GB, and I'm sure they expect that. So in the end it pretty much equates to infinite bandwidth. There's a big reason that their smaller plan is only 250GB - it seems like a low number so they expect lots of people to pay the extra to get the 2000GB. Worked with me.

An aside on "cost" (btw only just noticed this thread in moment of idle boredom):

Putting up a link on our site does indeed not cost an awful lot - maybe 15 minutes of Chaz's time.

However we do rather like to not leak traffic out of our site. In fact we have a bare minimum of links away from our site to other sites. We don't even carry ads any more. When we do send someone somewhere else, it is, as someone has pointed out, an opportunity for us to make a bit of cash in some way, which largely means affiliate games. But essentially when we get someone to alight upon our site we don't ever want them to leave. The last thing I want them to do is download a demo before they go.

Also, you may be surprised to hear that we have almost bugger all traffic anyway and don't make any money to speak of Smiley

Yeah, surprising.

My ultimate goal is to put my games on the chrome app store. That, I hope, should give much more visibility IF one publish his games before there're too many (apple app store challenge).

Please don't take it personally: what do you think our visitors will think? (Not what I think, I'm all for people writing games, in any language, just for the hell of it - but Puppygames is a business)
