So I properly tried my hand at pixelart yesterday, and wanted to know what you guys thought, how I could improve, etc.

(I know it's not much, I think I'll post more as it happens. However, I did want to make sure I was going in the right direction before I did much more.)

I think the arms look a little too long, and the lack of a mouth is rather scary Smiley other than that looks good!

Not bad, I like the coloring of the shirt/vest. The brim of the boots is way too long though Tongue
This sprite gives me the impression of a grunt-type enemy, with the bandanna and cumbersome hands.

Think again.

@OP: The legs (and feet) are a little bit... skinny. But other than that it is a decent piece of art.

(Btw, sorry some parts of the boots got cut off. The image wasn't exactly aligned to the nearest 8-pixels, and Paint.JAVA's resize function is nearest-neighbour)

That's suddenly really creepy looking.
I see your concern for the legs, I was trying to go for a disproportionate style that portrayed the light-heartedness of the game.

Yeah the brims were a mistake that I thought I had fixed right before I had uploaded it to imgur, however I must've ended up uploaded the correct one.
Otherwise, thank you for your feedback ^.^ I'm glad that it's working in what I really count my first attempt doing pixelart to any avail.

I initially thought the same about him: big tough goon. But as I think about it more, I think I may make him a sort of Big Friendly Giant, working as a companion (both in gameplay and story) to the main character throughout the game (:

The arms/hands were certainly a part I struggled with at first, however I think I've got them now. And when I was making him, I had nothing but a big angry goon who seems to blindly follow his leader for whatever undisclosed reason. I decided that in light of this, the lack of a mouth would symbolise this needlessness to speak up against his 'superiors'.

Just wanted to say that outlining with normal brush gives it a cartoonish feel and will be legible easily.

@OP the more I look at the arms, the more I like them! He'd definitely be a cool gentle giant if you have him some different clothes. I don't know of any stories with a thug mercenary as a giant who saves the day! Tongue
