Thank you!
I'll keep you inform, I think my experience can be used by any of you here who is developing games  Wink
For the moment, I only put my game on JGO, TIGsource & gamejolt (btw, gamejolt has a pretty good community of players, I recommend it). I'll wait to have more content to put my game on indieDB, steam greenlight and others.
Here is the video from the same guy who did the alpha video. He follows my game pretty closely, which is really cool !

Just released Beta v2.0!

This update is mainly focusing on the krakens fight, the flooding system, new kinds of fish and gold which is a limited resource now.
Also 2 music tracks have been added, the one during the kraken fight is just awesome, very epic, I love it (done by Lapse: https://soundcloud.com/lapse)
Hope you'll enjoy it Smiley

What is 'the flooding system' or what is it for?
Still amazing! (ugh sounds bad... it is of course increasingly amazing!)

What is 'the flooding system' or what is it for?

Judging from the screenshot, it looks like your base can get flooded.

@opiop65: trying to implement better looking assets now, glad you like it Wink fish are now different depending on your depth.
@Drenius: Many krakens will attack you and try to break your base. They come regularly, but you can protect your base with harpoon cannons. Whenever they break a part of the base, water goes in and your base gets flooded. Broken walls can be fixed of course. Smiley
I made this video a week ago while I was working on the flooding system:

Very interesting.
Would be nice to also see how the krakens attack the base.

I'm about to release FarSky Beta v2.1 today!

This update mainly focuses on the base design. It now has lighting, levels, and the look & feel of it has been modified to make it look nicer and more realistic.
Also the workshop table system has been improved and redesigned Smiley
I'm currently spending more time on furniture and stuffs around the base.

If you want to see a video of v2.0 (previous version), here it is:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/w29bGek_qbY?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;start=" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/w29bGek_qbY?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;start=</a>

For the moment, the game is doing well. I have several sales everyday. It's not very big, I could not live with that for the moment, but I did not launch the game on any platform (can only be bought from my website) and did not talk much about the game (only here, TIGforum & Gamejolt), so I'm pretty confident for the moment Smiley

That's very cool! I'm glad you're already getting sales, you should start promoting it very soon and building a base before releasing the next major version. Build some hype, release it and sit back and watch the sales come in Smiley

Good job!

@opiop65: Thats right, but dont do that before having at least a playable prototype. In this case there is one, so its just right. But do not slow down working!

This game is getting better and better, but is there still permadeath?
If so, it does not really fit to a game where you build your existence:
Imagine you have played for ours, built a huge base and got everything to work and then there is .. maybe just some kind of lag at the wrong moment, you get killed by something and poof, everything you have done is lost forever.
This does not really give most players a reason to continue playing...

At the moment there is notmuch to say about the new version for me, but the screenshot looks very good, the lighting and especially the multiple layers and I really hope you succeed!

I agree with Drenius, permadeath is too harsh, especially for a game such as this.

Offline Tim Spekler
« Reply #103 - Posted 2014-01-04 12:21:27 »

Actually permadeath is only for the Alpha. Since Beta v1.0, there is no permadeath anymore. When you die, you just lose some items from your inventory and respawn in the last base you entered.  Smiley

I'm about to release FarSky Beta v2.3 today!

This update mainly focuses on doors (which stop water flooding), barracudas, cookers and some other small features. Also, all your inventory is dropped on the floor when you die now.

PS: yes, I did not talk about v2.2, that is because it was a bug fixing update only, haha!

Nice game. I like the atmosphere.
Played the Alpha.

Will you implement any challanges, such as a simple racing course or hunting challange?
Gives the player some micro-goals.

Also, a Wiki and Forum would be cool for the users.

Good project - commercial success to you.

Thank you for what you have once again opened my eyes to people.
It's just amazing how people are selfish and does not appreciate the work of others.

And yes I'm talking about your project : no I'm not saying that he is any better than yours.
But absolute indifference on your background is simply amazing ,
I never asked to buy my game or give me the money - all the versions of my games were free and without any Commercial deceptions through which stupidly rook
( which oddly enough , I know a lot of (pre -sale buns of participants with steep , steep renderings nor has any relation to the game, fake counter sales to generate interest purchased revue promises cool mechanics , etc.) , but none have used none)

I even gave sors and oddly enough people are so selfish and really so hard to respect that even one could not give a medal - although it's stupid one mouse click .
As a result in the render (in fact ) more than rowing medal free game open source

Gentlemen, you know what you do not need free games , you will like it when you cheat, you create your own one shitty world in which you and die , and then there is nothing to cry.

And then I have nothing to do with such **** as you.

« Reply #110 - Posted 2014-01-18 11:06:30 »

@Damocles: Well, you say that at the right moment. I was really focusing on the gameplay, and I'm currently working on the goal of the game. I can't say too much about it as it is still in progress.
@Icecore: I don't understand if this is nice to me or not, or to others. You seem to be angry at something for sure, I don't know what. Please stay respectful and polite. Smiley
@Drenius: I will make a trailer video in a few weeks. I don't have the time to make a gameplay video for the moment. Here is a link to a Brazilian video of Beta v2.2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKsPm29cce0 (has been seen 18 000 times in 10 days, OMG!  Grin )

@stonewalltony:
sorry for that. There is a simple way for me to understand why it does not work for you (you would just need to send me a file). It does not require a lot of time (maybe 1 or 2 minutes), but I would understand if you don't want to do that:
- open the Launcher (not the game, just the launcher)
- click on "Options"
- then click on "Open log folder"
- A new window should open with a file inside called "farsky.log". Can you send me this file to play@farskygame.com please?

Sorry for the trouble, really.
In any case, don't hesitate to email me (same address), I don't like to leave someone in this kind of situation :/

The guy in the video kept saying Far Sky as in Farski. Is that how you have to pronounce it?

Offline Tim Spekler
« Reply #115 - Posted 2014-02-03 22:47:41 »

you're right, he does not pronounce it right. The idea is "far from the sky". He told me after he was sorry about this, but it is really not a problem. Actually saying farski is kind of cool! but it does not have any meaning, so...  Tongue

Hey everyone!
I just put on youtube the first trailer of FarSky! Hope you'll like it!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/brgISBuIzYc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;start=" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/brgISBuIzYc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;start=</a>

By the way, the waves you see at the end are rendered inGame and will be in beta v3.0 release. I'm pretty proud of the final result  Cool haha! (Making realistic waves is actually easier than I though. You only need a simple vertex shader with cos and sin maths in it)
Anyway, I'll launch the next update tomorrow or the day after, so really soon!
I also just updated the website! If you want to check it out, it's right here: http://www.farskygame.com

I just released FarSky Beta v3.0 today!

Main features are: Adventurer & Survivor game modes, and day&night cycles.
The goal of the game is now to fix your submarine and reach the surface. I'll add the sandbox mode soon to mess around with no objective.
Take advantage of the day to explore and collect resources. At night, predators are more numerous and more aggressive!
