Hi,

Entered the LD48 game comp http://www.imitationpickles.org/ludum/
Made a java applet entry with Pulpcore & Jbox2d.

Screenshot

Play the game here http://blog.alexjeffery.org/pulpcore-applets/ld4811-minimalist-entry/

Instructions.
You are the blue square.
Dodge the red squares using the arrow keys.
Use the mouse to fire at the red blocks. You can't destroy the red blocks, just deflect them. Get hit too many times and it is game over.

Have fun!

Thanks,

I am glad you liked the graphics!
Yeah I agree the game play could do with some more work, the idea seemed more fun in my head and I only had 48 hours to tweak it Tongue

Interesting concept here but need more game design development. Any score? How about being able to destroy some types of squares and upgrading your player with falling items as in Arkanoid?

Graphics are cool but a bit too simple I guess. But I like the dark ambiance.  Smiley

I question I had in my mind: were you inspired by Geometry Wars? Seems really cool but haven't played it yet. I'm considering it for the Wii or DS.

Hi,

There is a score. It is in the top center of the screen.
It counts how many red boxes drops you have currently survived.

The graphics are very simple on purpose to keep with the minimal theme of the competition.
I agree I think with some tweaking the game could turn out to be pretty playable.

Cool graphics, but they're just a bit too much. I had a lot of trouble telling what I was doing.
