It's strange.  When I started that noteworthy people thread my first thought was of Kernighan, Ritchie and Thompson, but I sorta wanted to stick to individual contributions..even though very few are truly individual efforts.  I'm certainly going to toast Ritchie this evening.

wow, apparently I was not paying attention when I did my Computer programming reading.... Cuase I even took notes that C was made by Dennis ritchie, and yet I had no idea who he was when I saw this.

He died a few days ago. Great guy. I assume even Java would not exist without him. In Belgium, some media spoke about his death but not really in France.

this was mentioned a couple of days ago on some podcast someone who was giving a ride to me was listening to.

Basically the guys said that dennis made computers for real people who did real work. And Jobs made computers for hippies.

Oh yeah, and DTP & Art for many many years was pretty much mac.  Stuff like that makes great sound bites, but aren't very realistic.
