I recently installed the 1.4.2_02 jdk software. Just today, I got a little notice in my task bar that a new version of the JRE was availble, and "would I like to install it?"

I clicked "yes". It worked very similarly to the "Automatic Windows Updates" for critical updates to MS Windows products. I'm thinking this is a new feature in the latest JRE release, but if Sun is going to help distribute JRE's, and keep them updated this way, them I'm all the happier.

Now, it seems to only update the JRE, not the JDK, but from a user's point of view, who the hell cares? Perhaps this is only a feature of the Windows version? Anyone else seen this yet? I'm estatic! (Please excuse my garbled sentences, it's getting too late here to be trying to communicate intelligently).

Mentally unstable, best avoided.

Yep, I noted the same thing.. very nice. Its good to see them moving that way and whats cooler, integrating with the existing OS update system.

Merry Xmas,

Kev

Well, it wasn't actually part of windows update, but it did work just as nicely.

That seems like an odd thing to do. Are you for soeme
reason purposefully staying behind the curve?
