Hi!

I've never used a profiler on my Java code before and have decided to give it a try. Are there any good profilers out there (any profilers from sun?)?

Before you go laying out any cash, just try the built-in profilers in the JRE. I've used -Xprof extensively building my game and it's been very, very effective.

I got a copy of OptimizeIt on e-bay for $112 -- it normally retails for $1600.   Grin

It was version 4.2 instead of 5.0, but it still rocks!
It has made a big difference in reducing memory and removing choke points in our code.

And, yes, it is legal and licensed and was even in the original sealed jewel case.  I even had the option of buying the support package (which I declined).
