What's an alternate reality game (ARG)? See 'The Next Big Thing' in The Times (http://tinyurl.com/6zcuk).

Base skills / proficiencies
- LAMP servers
- Apache deployment and config
- SQL servers, DB schema design, and SQL coding
- PHP4/Perl to drive content-rich sites (e.g. custom forum software)
- Bash/shell-scripting for system admin and intra-server glue
- server-side Java (quel surprise!)
- System Testing
- UML
- CMS development and admin

Particular skills:
- Building and maintaing large websites (clustered or mirrored servers a big plus)
- Building and maintaining high-performance SQL databases for very high volume web access
- Stress testing websites and/or clusters
- Developing document-publishing systems with publication pipelines
- Designing and developing "commmunity" sites with rich proprietary features

Role:
- Creating a new alternate reality game (ARG) with online and offline elements
- Building to withstand massive peak loads and large ongoing loads
- Administering the powerful and complex (many components) live systems and development systems to drive all this
- Working with the CTO to plan new projects and improvements to the base system, as well as ongoing development, maintenance, and patching strategies
