I want it undone.

Splitting it up at this point doesn't make much sense, because the thread frequency isn't high enough. With one subforum for all of those game releases it was about right (imo).

I can understand why it was done... because it was a) possible (heh) and b) because it's easier to gather stats and/or look for a certain type of game... but (and that's a big but)  the "interface-friction" got damn high as a side effect. I'm really too lazy for checking all of those child boards every once in a while (bad thing) and I'm not the only one.

Well, we have those pretty useless "message icons" there, which could be (ab)used to indicate the genre... like a crosshair for FPS, a little zelda alike sprite for RPG, a tetris block (or a jigsaw piece) for puzzle and so on.

Sorry you feel that way.  The idea to do this was one that was brought to my attention a while ago and we never had the ability to do so until now.  I think it is quite valuable to have it segmented as wyou can now post exactly where you want and see the kinds of thins you want.  The reality is that, on the old forums, only the top half of the board was ever paid attention to as posts moved down the page, or off the page, people did not go back to them.  This meant that there were a lot of useful and neat games/posts that didn't get the visibility they deserved.  Segmenting should be easier for anone looking for a genre of game to quickly get to the meat.

BTW,  The interface friction should be lowered quite a bit as I continue to clean up the boards.  Right now there are way too many boards and am working to consolidate from the top level down.  Hang in there for a bit Smiley

Yea, I guess it would be ok if they were on the top level... and other boards could be thrown together... like off topic, general games discussion, news, gtg and suggestions. They are all pretty much the same thing, except gtg, which is pretty much useless, isn't it?

Well, it's pretty tough to come up with a good structure. Maybe a dedicated discussion will help? (A side effect would be, that there won't be any bad surprises etc... y'know complaining when it's too late feels silly (Heh. I know what I'm talking about Wink).

I really don't like the split. Especially as it just makes finding games harder rather than easier. Not all - most - gamers are dedicated genre fans, we like a bit of anything.

While I agree and feel the split should be undone, I think we should all give it another couple of weeks to decide if we just need to get used to it Smiley

Initially I found it awkward too, but now we have a fully functional "show unread posts since last visit" feature.  Which is so much easier than navigating through the forums anyway.
