Seriously, aside from lilo, whats not to like about freenode... - it is just a network - like any other... 'cept we got ChanServ and the likes.

But I don't care what network we're on - just that we decide one (be it irc.java-gaming.org or not). I am already on 6 different networks

I'm not on any, and that's plenty for me!  But then again I don't use an instant messenger either...

I know one of the guys who wrote IMC - Inter-Mud Communications.  Doesn't something similar exist for IRC?  Can't you just connect the two up to forward messages between them?

there are chat clients where you can have one TabbedPane for each channel and they can be connected to different servers.

i'm not active on IRC anymore either. i used to, but not anymore.
