wonder how hard it is to make filters and effectors for OpenAL in java?
There is EAX, which can add some nice effects - other than that, you'd need to manually manipulate the buffer containing the audio data.
i take it the world of extentions are over to Creative and the SoundCard dudes.
Somewhat... there are some LOKI (the linux company) extensions, but since I don't have linux, I can't add these - and besides they're linux only (hmm EAX is windows only too
But you could add you're own extensions to the OpenAL32.dll by downloading it from cvs, unfortunately you'll have to add the required native code to LWJGL too.
Untill OpenAL adds more extensions that are available throughout all platforms, you're stuck with what is currently available.
One word of caution though:
OpenAL is for playing audio in a 3d space, and it is really good at that. Just don't use it for audio editing and whatnot - it just "plays" stuff
