What kind of sprite do you want ? High quality sprites ? 2D sprites ? 3D pre-rendered sprites ?

You could take a look at deviantArt, I think there's a special categorie into the pixel art section...

You could also take a look at some free sprites galleries for RPGMaker and all this kind of "game making program". Doing a search on google give plenty of good result a big resource websites.

If that were true, then fair enough.

But the truth is that it's BS - look carefully and you'll find some great free artwork around. e.g. for survivor we got all our textures for free and our 3D models for free (although the public alpha doesn't let you move the overhead camera to appreciate the complexity of the Quake2 models ). I also have another 100MB+ of free textures on my HD, plus countless free sprites (mainly raytraced stuff).

Please, if you've got something useful to say, say it. But don't just mouth off *entirely* randomly.

EDIT: i.e. I'm not asking you to shut-up, but e.g. instead of just saying "it's crap" when it manifestly isn't you should give some kind of evidence or reasoning beyond "cos I say so".

You want a reason that making your own game with 2-D sprites sucks. Here you go:

1. To make a half-decent game takes hours.
2. When you make it, you'll get bored with it in 15 minutes.
3. No one else wants to play it.
4. You can go out and buy a good game for 50 bucks that won't get boring.
and 5. Naturally because I said so.

Did you ever think maybe a 2D game could just be a simple stepping stone to bigger and better things?  Plus, not all 2D games suck, have you ever played 'Soldat'? It is a 2D FPS and it is pretty bad ass.  Besides just because you think the graphics suck doesn't necessaryily mean that the game concept sucks.  Some of the greatest games made are 2D and people still enjoy playing them to this day.

As proof to born2snipe's comment, just look at where Final Fantasy came from. A 2D very low pixel world into, IMO, the best RPG around. A film has been made in its honour as well!

While that may be your opinion (sounds like you havn't actualy played it cause there is a bit more too it than pokemon...), it does not change the validity of what darkprophet said. Just because you don't like it doesnt mean its not an extremely popular game that has evolved into something much bigger than what it started as (2D 8-bit nintendo game).

I don't think adding an extra dimension to the graphics in a game automaticaly makes it better. There are still plenty of snes and older games that I enjoy at least as much as the lates unreal tournament or other graphicaly intensive game. Anyone else have an opinion on this or are we stuck with bbqplatypus' ignorant view on things... I'm done talking to this guy unless someone else wants to say something.

I've yet to play a true 3d game thats got me as addicted as any one of the 2d ultimas.. but then thats just me.

I suppose its one thing we can count on, what ever game you make there will folks who love it and folks who hate it... just as long as they play it!
