Hoo-bloody-rah, the laughably described "80hour game development experiment" Super Elvis is finally nearing completion about 6 months late. We'll be going into beta testing for Win32 and Linux x86 next week. I have sent a lovely spam from the Puppygames forums to my last lot of beta testers but it's quite likely it got filtered out by zealous ISPs, so I thought I'd post here too. Your duties will be:
- Give me your machine specs
- Play each level in Super Elvis, all 81 of them, and rate it for difficulty, and fun, separately.
- Spot any bugs and glitches
- Suggest trivial improvements (I'm waaay beyond arsing around with cool new features now!)
and your prize will be a free copy of Super Elvis and Alien Flux, and a warm thankyou in a scrolly message I know it's a lot to ask etc. etc. but I'm totally broke and can't afford to pay anyone to test it. It probably won't earn a bean anyway but we can but try eh? Cas

Heh, come on now, if the game that won the Sun Gaming Contest (in its early incarnation) can't make some money what hope is there!?
No beta testing for me, I want it to be fresh to play when it comes out and I can finally buy my copy!

Ye, got the email... the from and to fields are the same... uh Well, I'm in again >Suggest trivial improvements Add a cheatcode, which displays the level number in the upper left corner (that makes taking notes easier).

Cas,
I'd love to help with beta testing... can't remember the exact machine specs I have at home (sad, isn't it) but it's a decent box with a new ATI card. I'll get more infor later in the day.
On one condition as well: I'd still like to buy my copy of the game.
Cheers,
Bill
edit:
Here's my machine at home:
Win2K AMD Athlon 512 Mbyte RAM ATI Radeon 9600

I would gladly help the effort by offering to beta test ( kul_th_las@hotmail.com) System Specs: Machine#1 ======= AMD Athlon 950 Mhz 384MB RAM GeForce 2 MX 400 (64 MB) WinXP Pro SP2 Java 1.4.2 (but I'll install another version for testing if you like) Machine #2 ======= AMD Athlon 1800+ 512MB RAM GeForece 3 Ti500 (128 MB) WinXP Pro SP2 Java 1.4.2 & 5.0 only I actually have a third machine available for testing - it's a new G5 iMac, but last I heard lwjgl doesn't work on OS X, which I assume you are using.

you're beaten with a stick and forced to stay awake and drink energy drinks and play until you finish or your eyes pop out... whichever comes first. But if your eyes pop out, you don't get your free copy!

Cas,
It might be a good idea to produce some sort of excel spreadsheet that all the beta testers fill out, that way you should be able to collate the results more easily and produce some nice metrics and graphs.
Just a thought,
Andy.

Was thinking just a text file arranged thusly: 000000000 000000000 000000000 000000000 000000000 000000000 000000000 000000000 000000000 where you put a H for too hard, E for too easy, B for boring, or F for too frustrating, or ? for couldn't figure out what to do. Beta testers can test any level they want by holding down the CTRL key Cas

Ah, alright... seems to be ok ish that way, too >where you put a H for too hard, E for too easy, B for boring, >or F for too frustrating, or ? for couldn't figure out what to do. Maybe something like k for ok? I mean hey... it's unlikely that all levels are either too hard, too easy, boring, frustrating or confusing

From Bobbykins, I have loaded Super Condom at work & have tried the start level. The instructios? on what to do only flashed up & then disappeared!!!! I, as an elderly, brain-disadvantaged person, had great confusion pointing the condom's digit in the correct direction but after a while I noticed the mouse diagram - whilst deciphering this - I lost my life! Whilst pressing 'escape' in an urgent manner due to imminent prying eyes in the office - the game froze - it took ages to 'end programme' & then I was left with these absolutely HUGE icons on the screen & my little 'pop up' would not come up!!! I had to undergo great inconvenience & re-boot to achieve the status quo. Idiot Bobbykins

Another update: all known webstart bugs squished! And it's out for MacOS X 10.3!!! (10.2 status unknown, may never work properly thanks to O/S bugs) http://67.18.194.226/downloads/superelvis.jnlp (Win32, MacOS X, Linux x86) or play in a window: http://67.18.194.226/downloads/superelvis-windowed.jnlp (Win32, MacOS X, Linux x86) Place your orders now BTW, I had to ditch variable pricing because of security complications. So it's back up to good ol' $19.95. Still a dollar's not worth bugger all any more eh? Cas

(10.2 status unknown, may never work properly thanks to O/S bugs) OS X 10.2.6 G3 iBook dual USB 640MB RAM "Failed to reserve NVidia RAM" Which is a little silly, because the laptop has an ATI card in it. :-) <paul-harvey>And now you know, the rest of the story [about 10.2 not working]</paul-harvey>
