According to Gamasutra, Criterion Games has acquired MathEngine's physics IP. Considering that Criterion is on the advisory board for the Java gaming effort and that MathEngine was the physics engine that was discussed in the JSR134 proposal, could this mean that we are closer to getting a physics engine for Java?

Well, Havok integrates their physics engine with Director...

We just need a standard OPEN scenegraph architecture that can sit on top of JOGL/LWJGL to simply development and integration of 3rd party components. Then maybe Java can eventually become a serious alternative for desktop games.
