I wrote an applet that uses renders 3d surface using voxel animation:

It demonstrates that voxels could be used for rendering very realistic 3d models with lighting.
I'm not a game programmer, I wrote this stuff about 5 years ago when was a student. But I've never seen a real app that uses this cool technique. Have anyone tried to use voxels in games?

Voxels? It's long years since anyone was called by that name...

I think that Voxels actually had quite a lot in their favour but they weren't widely used, they tended to look quite poor close up and the architecture of graphics cards moved in a much more polygon kind of direction at which point you'd have been a numpty to try and write games ignoring that.

That is kind of my understanding of the history of the voxels/gaming marriage- no idea how accurate or otherwise it is, mind.
