avoid lawyers. lawyers are out for 1 thing, and 1 thing only: getting you to pay them a retaining fee. the lawyer will basically convince you that you are going to lose but to sign on the dotted line and will cause you to lose because losing is less work for them but they still get the retaining fee.
I have NEVER had that experience and I have sued lawyers in many occassions. I think thats terribly irresponsible advice.
In most states in the US the bar association has a referral program where for something like $25 you get the first consult with the lawyer efectively for free.
I have many lawyers solve my problem at that meeting and never ever suggest I pay them more.
If youa re in busines in the US, a lawyer is like a pistol. You should have one for your own protection ,but only if you are not afraid to use it. Then you should do everything in your poeer to see that you never have to use it.
A good place for answers to basic questions is the Nolo book series if you are willing to self educate BUT udnerstand the limits. You are NOT a lawyer. if you try to extrapolate from what is inthe book as an amature you have just crossed voer to dangerous ground.
