Just how common has Java 5.0 become on the computers of average users? I've been trying to decide if I will target 5.0 or stick with 1.4.2 to minimize the need of updating for the majority of users.

I haven't exactly been keeping up with how 5.0 has been accepted by the mass public, but I'm sure that you folks will have some helpful insight for me. :)

Many thanks!

Well right now most of the developers don't even like it, so almost no common users have it.

I wonder why...? Does it bring any disadvantages?

Ive upgraded to 5.0 for a single reason.

1.4.2_05/_06/_07 have broke JNI. And 1.4.2_04 is working fine, but that stupid thing called java updater keeps nagging me to update. So i just updated to 5.0...THAT SHUT YOU UP DIDN'T!  Grin

No, really...that is the reason!

Java 5 is old news.  I'm running the Mustang betas Smiley

Seriously, we ship our swing app with Java 5, but with a private JRE.  I just didn't want to take the risk of putting the JRE in the hands of users that would blame us for any incompatibilities.
