Seeking intermediate/senior Java developer Ottawa

INTERMEDIATE / SENIOR JAVA / J2EE DEVELOPER
HARRIS COMPUTER SYSTEMS

I. JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an intermediate/senior Java/J2EE developer to work on our next generation CIS/Billing system.  The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of Java, J2EE, JFC/Swing, Java Beans development, SQL, web based front-ends, OOP design principles and design patterns.

II. JOB RELATIONSHIPS

A.  Reports to:            Director, Research & Development
B.  Interrelationships:      This position will be directly involved with the Professional Services and Support teams in supporting end users.

III. JOB REQUIREMENTS

-Minimum of 3 years of experience in software development using Java technologies (JFC/Swing, J2EE, JDBC, JDK 1.4.x a minimum).
-Knowledge of OOP and design patterns.
-Experience with multi-tier architectures.
-A thorough knowledge of SQL 92.
-Worked with bug tracking software.
-Experience developing in a team environment.
-Worked with versioning software.
-Experience with one or more of the following J2EE application servers: JBoss, WebLogic.

IV. PREFERENCES

-Have a strong understanding of interface usability - how to make the end-users experience as simple as possible. You should be able to step outside of the "developer" role and view the application from the user's perspective.
-Have experience developing applications for both – Windows and Linux.
-Have acted in the capacity of mentor or team leader.
-Have experience with Microsoft SQL, Oracle and Informix.
-Have knowledge of CIS, customer care systems, billing systems or financial systems.
-Have experience in the utilities markets (Electric, Water and/or Gas).


V.      SALARY
