What a about a chat for people who are logged in to java-gaming.org?
I've heard there is a computer language that allows to create things like that in a browser....
I see the list of people online on the bottom of the forum page and would love to contact them for a small chat!

I've got an old chat system I wrote a long time ago around somewhere. It is an applet. I'm sure there are better ones but it might get things started.

I would like to see a complete webb based solution based on the fact at the company I work for have enough firewalls and proxies to secure the whole world (it's just a bank why the security ) and therefore I can't use other protocols then http on port 80 or https...

Ah, port number-based firewalling. No problem - I'm sure someone can come up with a port 80 tunnel proxy to allow you to connect...

Just a caveat -- just because someone's name shows up at the bottom as "online" doesn't mean that they are actually there.
I usually have the "stay logged in forever" checkbox checked, as I am the only one who uses my computer and I dislike having to re-login all the time.
So, if there's a Chatlet added to the site, don't always expect the "online" people to actually be there!!

Interesting - but just NOW you are not online. And most of the time I am here! I assume that the online indicator gives at least a good hint....

I'm not used to the IRC business - what client do you suggest? Do I need to register somewhere?
Despite of that - an online chat here would be much cooler.

I already get enough "server overloaded" type error pages. Unless this runs on a different server I'd rather not get these errors than have this crude chat feature.

Sorry about that! Given that within the first 5 min of going up, we realized that that chat application s*CKs, os we took it back down. Jeff and I are looking into a "proper" Java/IRC chat client for all to use. Hope to have it up within the next day.

Jeff and I are looking into a "proper" Java/IRC chat client for all to use. Will you be setting up your own irc server? if not - we are a couple of people at #javagaming on the freenode network (irc.freenode.net)

I feel it makes most sense that the chat is tightly coupled to this site. Whoever is logged on here should be 1 mouseclick (to the most) away from the chat. I'd prefer a chat-window integrated into the main page.
And for the other things: what is a good IRC client?

And for the other things: what is a good IRC client? I like X-Chat. It has a better layout in the message view when it comes to aligning names than mIRC, you'll see, and it's free, GPL free, not shareware sorta free.

I'm a bit late to this topic, but I've been begging for this for a WHILE now! Thanks for all who've resuggested it and added it. I'd love, personally, to be able to chat and share with most of our members in realtime!
