very nice, i have both of them right in front of me =)
the j2me game programming book is a quite complete one and grabs the topics from precompiling, coding and distributing up to common problems and porting issues.
not everyone will like the style though, cause in every corner theres a flat joke hidden.
the book has a little lack on going deeper to midp2.
the book from carol hamer is half in size and not my recommendation. you can learn how to code nice little games, but nothing more. no discussed problems, no porting, no (very important) advices for tools.
e.g.:
in a handful of sentences she says that its a good idea to use the java emulators and fit only the parameters for testing.

far away from reality....
