Let's all vote for our favourite PC (or console) game! This should be interesting since game developers are involved. To make it easier let's avoid retro games, unless you absolutelly have to I'll start by giving my vote to Colin McRae Rally (any version). Don't be shy!

Current favourite or all-time favourite? But there are so many! I have to break them up into categories or it's not fair! Current favourite: NetHack (Strategy), GridRunner++ (Arcade), Strange Adventures in Infinite Space (RTS) In the last decade: Doom (FPS), X-Com games (all of 'em) (Strategy), Half-Life (FPS), Thiefs 1 & 2 (RTRPG), Starcraft (RTS) Retro: Paradroid (Arcade), Ancipital (Arcade), Sheep in Space (Arcade), Dropzone (Arcade) Cas

Fallout 1&2. Recently played a few hours of Morrowind, very nice, but too huge, I will never finish it. Master Of Orion 1&2, is part 3 any good?
Oh, I don't remember all the old ones from my Amiga time.

Depends what I'm feeling like! Current favourites are SimCity 4 and Morrowind+Tribunal. Every now and then I'll reinstall Ascendancy, Master of Orion 2 or Settlers 2 for a few days.
Full Throttle was very satisfying. Best timewaster would be one of SimAnt, Devastation Quake 2, Tetris (GB), or Daggerfall. I've also enjoyed all the Dooms, all the Quakes and a couple of Unreals.

Yes, the bright and colourful Outcast was a great relief after many of the same games with different names that all look alike (dark & gloomy). Nothing like mindless violence to help you relax at the end of a long day Ah, you remind me; Carmageddon (only the 1st) was really so greatly over the top politically incorrect, that just *has* to be good . And it was actually a fun game too. The newer ones are crap though. I-War was pretty good too I think.

Hmmmm tough...
Quake 3 Gauntlet 2 - "Red wizard you life force is running out" Secret of Monkey Island Gran Turismo 3 Bubble Bobble - I can still hear the music. Rick Dangerous Defender - I managed to burn out a power supply once
I think my favorite game of all time is....
Wipeout 3 or C&C - Red Alert - I almost failed my degree I played it so much (best played head-to-head and with "Ride of the Valkyries" on full blast out of the stereo as a helicopter attack takes place).
Regards,
Andy.

One game that I think I'd like to do in Java is a Final Fantasy Tactics clone that does online play.
Oh yea, I failed a few classes in college because of Quake 1. (most expensive game I ever played)

Thanks for your input, y'all! Keep on voting Since we're on the subject, I just wanted to add that I believe that it's really sad that the coinops are extinct (since Sega's statement 3 years ago, that they would not release any more Arcade machines - all the other Arcade companies had already dropped out of the coinop market). These games had rhythm, style and substance. They featured cutting edge hardware (remember one of the last games - Daytona USA 2?) and were designed with only gameplay in mind. I remember a few months ago, being at the basement of Virgin megastore where they have these Xbox/PS2 kiosks setup with games for the kids to try out. There was this guy playing the latest 3D dinosaur game (not giving out any names ) and all he could do, was to walk through this 3d landscape, trying to find something to kill. I stayed there for 10 minutes and still he couldn't find anything. That's something that would never have happened if the guy was playing a game at the Arcades. My first memory of games is walking past this dark hall with tens of arcade machines, the PacMan sirens screaming and the lights flashing on the kids' faces. Where is that now?

One game that I think I'd like to do in Java is a Final Fantasy Tactics clone that does online play.
Oh man, FFT rocks! I remembered when I first bought it, and I thought, "What is this crap?". It only took two days of game play for me to become unrelentingly addicted.
And you're right - FFT would make an excellent online game. And it seems like it would be so easy to do in Java, too.
It would be a good compliment to all of the click-fest RTS's that seem to be the mainstay of "strategy gaming" nowadays.
/me drools at the thought
Crap - I just may have to do that.
God bless, -Toby Reyelts

Morrowind (and Daggerfall before it), Elite (especially the RISC OS version- best AI ever!), Zelda 64, Black and White, Age of Mythology.
I particularly like games that let you wander freely and interact with the world as you choose, which describes all the above apart from Age of Mythology, which is just the most compelling single-player rts I have played. A complete and coherent universe where you feel nothing is missing really helps me to stay interested in a game- Zelda does this very well - everything in it is perfectly balanced and is part of a puzzle.

Wow, sign me up for the FFT team. I'm having my first playthrough (spread out over several months) and it's pretty fun. Just started Chapter 4.
Favorite console game: Judging solely by time spent, I'd have to go with the Hot Shots Golf series for PS/PS2.
Favorite PC game: I'd say the old Sierra adventure game series. Played a lot of King's Quest and Space Quest games to single one out.
I love RPGs, but I rarely play them more than once.

What kind of online features can be put to FF Tactics? For a multiplayer FFT experience try the game "Kartia: The word of fate", published by ATLUS. For PSX Character designs and artwork by Yoshitaka Amano Two player Versus mode Rafael.

Hi Toby, Sent you an email. And yeah, I agree, doesn't necessarily have to be FFT, but it would be nice to model some kind of tactical RPG. Seems to be a successful genre lately.

PC: Command And Conquer, all but the latest. Starcraft Elite (C64 days! and Palm Pilot version, Star Trader) SimCity Pharaoh
Console: Dynasty Tactics Dynasty Warriors (2, 3, Extreme and hopfully 4) Kessen and Kessen 2
Now, whomever said FFT, AWESOME suggestion. I prefer Dynasty Tactics because I love Dynasty Warriors, and indeed the whole Three Kingdoms idea, but that's just me.
