We are happy to announce that we have a new Java 3D Web Start website :
https://j3d-webstart.dev.java.net .
Applications can now access Java 3D from this site using the Java Network Launching Protocol (JNLP), without requiring user's of the application to download and install Java 3D. Please check it out, your feedback and comment will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Java 3D Team.

Note: We are aware of a caching issue that happens when a different java3d apps JNLP file is opened, web start will download java3d again rather than using the existing java3d from its cache. For example, using the 2 example programs we have posted, HelloUniverse and TickTockPicking. A user should only need a single java3d download to execute both programs.
We believe this problem is caused by the way java.net server is configured. We are currently working with the java.net folks to resolve this issue.

I am hoping they get the problems fixed real soon -- I submitted an entry for the IGF competition and it would be great if I could switch out the hacked-up auto-install of Java3D with the official extension!

There's still some way to go.

The 'release' links don't currently work and the 'prototype' links deliver 'old' 1.3.1.

Thank you very much  Grin

Can we rely on these links as permanent url's or do I have to regularly check that it's still working?

It sounds as this info is meant to be permanent:

As long as the java.net project does not provide latest experimental build, I uploaded it here:

http://www.hardcode.de/java3dext/java3dext.jnlp

This is what you will get there today:

1
Java 3D pre-release version: 1.3.2-build5-experimental 9/10/04 2:14:20 PM PDT

Feel free to use it!

The link provides a WebStart extension, thus it is meant to be used from within WebStart applications. You now have installed a library - kind of.

Hi all and *bump*

Does anyone have a j3d 1.4 (this shader build) for Mac OS X?

My team is planning out our demos for GDC in March and really wants to be able to show on Mac as well as Windows.

The CG toolkit works there and all else, just need those j3d jars and .so's and since we don't exactly have a Mac developer, we're not in a great position to make the build our selves as we did with the Win32 version.

Thanks for any help!
