Got some stuff that is reading in the standard editor displacement-style images for the height maps. Of course OGL needs normal maps for multitexturing.  Google is not being nice to me today so was wondering if someone had some example code or algorithm description for this task handy.  Final code I end up with out of this will be placed in the j3d.org code repository, so it's going to a good home Smiley

The nVidia dev site has a PhotoShop plug-in that generates normal maps from heightmaps.
We have used it quite a bit.
