is it possible?  everything that discusses active rendering seems to also be tied in with full screen mode.  i don't have the luxury to do the full screen.

so, can you actively render into a windowed GUI application?

Sure.

Just take care not to throttle other threads that keep your GUI alive.

Most of the animated applets around are not fullscreen.

do you perhaps know of an example of an animated windowed applet using active rendering?

There's something moving on

 http://www.hardcode.de

Or this one: http://www.hardcode.de/driver.html

Opens an own window.

Hope we have the same thing in mind when talking about 'active rendering'.
