So much to learn, so little time.

I'd like to ease myself into 3D programming. Coming from a non-gamers background.  I need to start from the real basics with a handholding guide.
Would the Redbook be suitable, or is it more of a theory book?

The Redbook is great to start with OpenGL : it covers most core features and is an easy read. However it won't get you into game programming, you'll need more specific tutorials such as those of NeHe or Gametutorials.

My current learning roadmap Cheesy :
- Redbook (completed)
- Gametutorials (in progress)
- CodeSampler (there is some crazy stuff there)
- messing a bit with Return to Castle Wolfenstein Grin

Cheers, I thought as much. I haven't come across CodeSampler before, it looks like an interesting site.

There are some nice tuts about advanced OpenGL features (such vertex and fragment programs, Cg, GLSL,...).
