moving model to another model

hi i'm developing a 3D chess game with xith3D, i have a .ase chess board and pieces up and running among other things and at the moment im trying to get the pieces moving around the board using the mouse as you would expect.

I'm having trouble just getting the king to move to another square(which is a seperate model part of an 2x2 array of transform groups at the moment) have tried getting the sqaures getLocalVWorld() transform and assigning it to the king model ans geting the sqaures transform matrix4f and assifgning it to the kings transform but to no avail.

I'm fairly new to xith3D and graphics prog. in general, i'm working through the basics of 3d maths at the moment but i need to get this project done for college! my brain just isn't absorning fast enough. any help would be brilliant thanks:)
