Planet Impact is my latest android game:

Libgdx was as always great along the way. Few interesting facts about the game:

Game uses real photos from Hubble space telescope as background images.
All the levels were created by bot that played thousands of randomly generated levels and picked the best ones. No level editor exists for this game it just kind of assembled itself.
Box2d was used for physics.

A rating or a review would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Those screens look interesting. I downloaded it just now and gave it a try. To give some additional information: my android phone's resolution is 320x480 and it's running android 2.3.3. So far, here are my pros and cons:

+ Installation went fast enough (even with my crap internet speed)
+ Started very fast
+ Music is nice and calm
+ GUI looks nice
- Fonts are barely readable (very thin font)

Unfortunately, because I can barely read anything I couldn't make head or tails from the tutorial so I had to quit. A shame because it really looks interesting! I'll leave it on my phone for now because I will be noticed about updates anyway. :p

Hi !

The screens really impressed myself, so I downloaded the game. I'll give some information : my phone have a 5.0" display ; in android 4.2 (Archos 50 Neon).

No troubles installing / playing...

- I agree, the look of the font is very thin ! (It's not a problem at 5.0")
- GAME BREAKING BUG : When you loose a game then retry, the IA looks completely wiped out ! The computer isn't doing anything... So it's really easy to win, then
+Very good ambiance
+Great variety of levels, wich wouldn't be suspected !
+I find the update pretty well balanced with the levels difficulty
- The sensibility is too high... Maybe you could increase the margin for error ?

I'll continue to play, you're a great dev Smiley

Thank for the feedback!  Wink

I tested it on 480x320 resolution and it indeed looked horrible. I added MipMap filter to the texture which makes the text look a bit smother.. but i can't really say if its more readable. I never had smaller resolutions in mind mainly because i thought that game itself would perform poorly on these devices as there are at times thousands of box2d bodies flowing around. Anyway the update includes a MipMap filter so check it out and maybe let me know if it helped? Wink

Thanks so much for finding that bug! Its fixed now. Regarding the sensibility the margin for error is already pretty big (in local coordinates) however theres one trick that probably no one notices is that you can zoom in and pan with two fingers. I added one line in tutorial that explains it now. Does zooming help or you thing something else should be done?

Thanks again for the feedback guys! I already uploaded a new version to google play so it should be live in a few hours.

I'm so sorry for not responding sooner! December and January have been terrible busy months for me and it is now that I actually took some time to log in on this website. I tested it out again, the font size is better but it is still very thin. I suggest not to take thin fonts anymore. They look fancy and very attractive for sci-fi games but on smaller devices they can lose pixels, no matter what font you use. I do not know if there is an option to setup different fonts for different resolutions in Java, but perhaps something to take a look at. It is unfortunately something I encounter quite a lot with games which is a shame.

Tried this out for a bit and I'm definitely gonna keep it on my phone! Comparing to other similar games I find it more interesting and fun to play. It also does not heat my phone up very much at all which most other games tend to do after just a little while. Below is some purely constructive criticism and thoughts that came to me while playing that I think could improve the game if you were to look into this and update it. But even if you don't, as said, a well made game! This should be on Featured if you ask me.

I do have some trouble single selecting small planets (dragging over works fine). I can of course zoom in, but that is really sub-optimal as it decreases my ability to interact with the entire map at once. This I find makes the orbital maps pretty difficult/annoying to play.

One thing I thought of that would make commanding ones forces easier, would be if no ships from one planet would land on another planet that itself were sending ships in the same move. This would make it a bit easier to manage multiple small planets vs one large.

Furthermore, the AI currently seems to only ever focus to capture one planet (if it is the closest one to their main forces or something I do not know), and does not ever try to capture planets that would be worth considerably more to them, even if they have the opportunity to do so.
