So, I've seen you guys have some pretty peculiar names, and I was wondering why you chose it. Also, does anyone know if Riven's name is based off of the league of legends champion? This question's been bugging me for a while.  Tongue

With great code comes even greater disorganization.

Considering Riven's had his name here 4 years before league was announced, I doubt it. Tongue

<engage creaky voice> Back in the old days of main frames and CRTs, we were only allowed 8 chars for our names, and a common approach was to take the first four letters of the first and last name and paste them together. So, the name isn't just an uninspired act of non-creativity and boredom, it is referencing a bygone age.

I also use Adonax here and there. This is a shortening of "Arundo Donax" or, a. donax, the cane used to make reeds for clarinets, saxes, bassoons, and my main instrument, the oboe. Oboists get stuck spending a lot of time with a. donax, scraping reeds to play. It cuts into time I'd rather spend playing the instrument or programming, or in fact, into time where I'd rather being doing almost anything else.

Catharsis was my original DJ name back in the day.... I found it kind of odd back in the day when I was active for folks to yell out, "Hey Catharsis," from across the street in public.. I kind of came out of the generation where the focus was on the music more than performer per se...

My father used to play an online role playing game when I was about 7 years old where he named his character 'Slypela'. When I was about 10 I got interested in the game Runescape and named my character 'Slythela' because I forgot what my dad named his, and thought it was that. Later I just shortened it to Slyth for any online accounts I used. I'm not sure why I named my profile with the 2727 after it; I really wish I hadn't or could remove it somehow. Ah me from 2 years ago, what a fool.

My cousin made an account for me in a game when I was little. I realize now that he might have just been joking with me, but I've kept the name ever since (mostly because I'm too lazy/I don't want 2 different aliases).

By definition, it means inhabited land. Also I wanted the nickname 'ecu', it sounded cool.
Also, the title says 'Whays' in place of 'What' Wink

I named my profile with the first letters of my name. Sri Harsha Chilakapati.

Sri is one of the names of lord Ganesh, Hindu god of prosperity. Harsha means man who is happy. Chilakapati came from the name of our village Chilakapadu and is our surname.

I needed a name for my druid on world of warcraft, so I opened notepad, and then hit my keyboard a few times. I took out some random letters, and ended up with Yemti, but decided to change it to Yemto since that sounded better.

In school someone one day had the idea to give everyone a unique nickname. Mine was "matheus", because I was good at maths ("mathe" in german).

It was about that time that I first needed internet nicknames (~11 years of age), so that became my pseudonym Smiley

Behold, it is I, the ghost of forums past:

I am actually surprised to see that it seems to be gone, I thought it was still there not too long a go, even if it's been dead for years.
Unfortunately the stylesheets etc. didn't make it to the archive, but you can still get the gist of it if you really want to read the cringy stuff I said.

I was a lurker here during that time as well, don't really know why I didn't register sooner.
But as to my name, I'm sorry to disappoint, there is no real story. I go by a few names, it's the one I chose then and I decided to keep it for this forum as well.

My name is the result of a specific symbol, which is drawn by drawing a line over the single characters on the keyboard.
Don't know what the symbol means though. I saw it in a dream and it just happened to hit the characters on my keyboard in the right order to make up a name. (Except that I had to replace the 'u' with an 'r'...)

The cake is probably a lie... but it's a delicious lie!

I use "Actual" from military jargon (see here).

I am making a space fleet sim game where the player is the CO of the fleet, so it seemed appropriate.

My real name is Wesley, but for some reason my friends started calling me 'wessles'. I suppose it is some kind of corrupted plural of Wesley? That or Wes is too mainstream  Cool.

That nickname died; now they call me Wes again; kept the username though (mostly because I can't come up with anything better).

Mine's got to do with books and algorithms. There's a series of fantasy books where the crime boss of one of the major cities as called things like "The Upright Man" and the like (Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Saga and the others in that LONG series.) And then I enjoy writing pathfinding algorithms and the like. So I crammed 'em together to become UprightPath (Linkin' my love for fantasy and for pathing.)
