Java games rock!

« Posted 2004-02-04 01:52:20 »

Hi, I have two questions about java graphics

1.  What difference is there between using fullscreen mode and using a large JFrame with a large JPanel (in terms of speed, and special abilities)?

2.  I ran an app that ran in fullscreen mode, and all it did was display the frames per second.  When on a PC, the app did a maximum of 60 fps (the code is vsynced), while as on a mac it peaked at a pathetic 20 fps.  Why is there such a tremendous speed difference between the two?

The difference is that when you go into full screen "exclusive" mode you gain the abilty to do page flipping. Page Flipping is the act of flipping your video pointer from one image to another directly, instead of rendering each image through Java's painting capabilities to the screen like a windowed app would (which is slower).
