Spent time on updating the AndroidOpenAL project, now updated the OpenAL Soft sources to 1.17.2. Today was a tough day, because I had failed to compile it since last four days, and my only successful compilation was a month ago with 1.12 version. Finally, I made it!

I learnt how libraries work in C environment, how makefiles work, and how GNU makefiles are different from Android makefiles. I have read the CMake lists, found out the different options, and found how it creates a config file, and hand composed that configuration. I also pulled out the sources into my NDK lib, made sure that the JNI sources still work, fixed a ton of linker errors and finally it is now done.

AndroidOpenAL version 0.2-SNAPSHOT is now in OSSRH snapshots repo. I'm facing a crash when loading 32-bit binaries (shared objects) into 64-bit phone, but it works fine on 32-bit phone. Will have to crack that tomorrow.

Anyways, this is the thing that I made today. Technically yesterday, 12:20 AM now, but am off to sleep with a ton of satisfaction today.

By the way, I got more devices to test and learn development, currently doing development on OnePlus X running 5.1.1, Lenovo K4 Note with 6.0.1, and my father's Samsung Note 10.1 which is running 5.1.1 as well.

Got some progress on the rendering side my game.

full resolution here: http://i.imgur.com/fhahLgr.png

zoomed in:

The shadow map scales with the view-frustum.

This is rendering in 23 ms (unoptimized -> ~3000 draw calls Tongue).
If you zoom in it's more like 1 to 3 ms thanks to frustum culling.

Now i need to add batching/merging and LOD to reduce draw calls and complexity.

Have you implemented a better performing method for streaming PCM than Android's AudioTrack?

I don't know the internals, but it uses OpenSL ES as the backend. I'm compiling opensles, wave and the null backend.

I got a start on my flowing water, it's still very rough and needs a lot of work to get right, but it certainly flows! The bulge in the middle is from dumping a bunch of water in one place.

Added parallax clouds to TF.
They scroll slowly and there are 3 tiers.
The 3 tiers allow it to feel like you're "breaking a plane" when you get past a certain point on mountains.
And now in the cloud biome, you really feel like you're at the top of the world.

Another 3 weeks before I return home.

I can't stay. Only have a 90 day visa, and I still have school! Smiley
Maybe next summer though. Already got another internship offer from another branch of this company.

Switched to a series of triangles for the chassis to support concave and convex. Breeding is almost finished, just working out some kinks. Randomly generates a terrain that gets more varied and difficult as it progresses.

After listening to a piano track from an indie game called Kingdom about 30 times, I decided to make a piano track for TF. Getting a bit better at calm composition but I still have a ton of room to improve.

On the bright side, there's no need to pay a composer and I learn every time I make a track.

Fun fact, most of that time was spend making functioning buttons and making a text box thing without AWT Cheesy
Also, I didn't obfuscate it so you guys can decompile the jar and get the source if you want

Just found out I passed all my ap exams    Grin. I got a 5 on my calculus exam and a 3 on my Macroeconomics exam. For those of you who don't know, AP exams are graded on a scale from 1-5. Most colleges regard a score of 3 as good enough for college credit.

I started writing an XML parser today, and it's getting along pretty well. This one is part of college assignment, and is purely educational. Just did some work on the tokenizer and got some basic tokens.

1
2
3
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<test>
</test>

Will generate these tokens.

1
2
3
4
5
6
XmlToken{type=TAG_BEGIN, text='<', line=2, start=1, end=2}
XmlToken{type=NAME, text='test', line=2, start=2, end=6}
XmlToken{type=TAG_END, text='>', line=2, start=6, end=7}
XmlToken{type=TAG_CLOSE, text='</', line=3, start=1, end=3}
XmlToken{type=NAME, text='test', line=3, start=3, end=7}
XmlToken{type=TAG_END, text='>', line=3, start=7, end=8}

This is pretty awesome, now time to add support for attributes. I'm omitting the prologue for simplicity and this is not a real parser.

Why not try writing a XML parser without using tokens?
Its a fun learning experience (and a taste of hell)!
I did it once; never released it.

I realized how hard it is to make pixel art look good.  I made a bunch of pixel art for Dodger Dog, and it does not look very good - it does not match the backgrounds and looks pretty crappy.  Think Atari sprites over a Sonic 2 or Mario background.  I think I'll stick to my original plan and have my artist friend Todd draw all the main sprites, and if it doesn't look good with the backgrounds, have him draw those as well.  I just cant do art lol.

this is a really nice tune! starts a bit boring (guitar sounds a bit off) but launches off at ~1:00 nicely and carries me away around ~1:30. the way you throw in the guitar then is much better.

maybe a bit too much reverb in general but the mood tint it creates is awesome. you got a longer version ? feels like this track should fly for another 5 min.

this is honestly the ideal reply I could receive to this track, so I was happy to wake up and read this.

the songs in this game are all about mood, more than even musical context. The mood it creates is what will be showcased during gameplay.

Now that you mention it, I might make a longer version for people to listen to, but in the game itself idk if I'll make it any longer, tracks are supposed to leave you wanting more untile you get to a boss, where the theme loops and it is also a remix of a few of the preceding themes.

The first boss theme takes the guitar at the beginning and pimps it out, it's the most intense part of it LOL, so the guitar did it's job  Grin

Anyway, I guess I should turn down the reverb just a tad as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

you're welcome.

the amount of reverb is good. maybe you could try to shelve the lows and highs down a bit, move the reverb-tail to the center frequencies and cut in a single parametric EQ at 2.8-3.2 khz by -6 to -8 DB. then even more reverb mixin could work.

it would render the reverb less present but still create the sweet stereo without being too musical.

Finished my basic XML Parser. Now time to add support for CData elements.

I think I will push this to GitHub now, and integrate it into SilenceEngine.
