Windows 8 Purchase on Linux  (Read 456 times)

So about a year ago I had Windows 8 on my computer but ended up completely screwing everything up and ended up installing Ubuntu, and later Arch Linux which I am now running. I recently decided to try and get Windows 8 back for personal reasons.
As I am currently a student I applied for the student edition of Windows 8 to buy it for a lower price. I was verified so I went to the purchase page and saw this:

Quote
Important: Windows 8.1 Pro full version is for Windows 7 users only.
Currently running Windows Vista or XP? First upgrade to Windows 8 Pro Upgrade – Student Offer.
Upon installation you can update to 8.1 for free.

So I want to make sure that I would be able to actually download the ISO instead of those upgrade programs you get where you input the product key? Because I'm not able to do that on my lappy as I am on Linux.

Any help is appreciated.

Here's the purchase page for those that are interested: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Windows-8.1-Pro-for-Students/productID.288769600

This is somewhat funny. You've managed to install Arch Linux, one of the hardest to install Linux distros, and you're stuck on installing Windows 8.

I'll add this to my list of "Linux is hard to use" rebuttals.

Opps. I misread.  Since it's an upgrade you'd very likely have to reinstall 7.

Here is how you do it.

Install the software.. when it asks for you to enter your key.. dont.
it will allow the install to continue... but it will not be a "registered" install.
then once installed.. you install it again using the same disk.
This time you can use your key and all will turn out fine.

I've often used upgrade disks.. this is the work around.
